How can someone know about abuse if no one tells them? Apparently, some people should have extrasensory perception.
House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) said Thursday that Rep. Jim Jordan “should have known” that an athletic doctor at Ohio State University was sexually abusing wrestlers decades ago while the Ohio congressman was an assistant wrestling coach.
“He is a person who has always said — oh my gosh, you look at his record — so-and-so should have known this, so-and-so should have known that,” Pelosi said during a press briefing, as transcribed by The Hill. “Well, many people say that he did know. And by his own standard he should have known.”
A preliminary Google search didn’t turn up any hits for Pelosi’s claim that Jordan is always accusing people of the same thing she is now accusing him, but it’s very possible that such evidence exists. Google isn’t always the best.
Pelosi added that Jordan previously has held Democrats accountable for abuse under their watch.
“Jim Jordan had a duty to protect [the athletes],” Pelosi said. “They say he failed.”
Well, some say he failed. More back Jordan and say he didn’t know. Jordan has adamantly denied allegations that he knew about the abuse but did nothing, saying that if he had known, “I would have dealt with it.” Fifteen former OSU wrestlers have come forward to defend Jordan, saying they never saw their former assistant coach around when discussions of abuse were taking place. Some have even said they don’t believe the doctor, Richard Strauss, abused anyone. Still others say Strauss was abusive, but also claim Jordan didn’t know.
OSU is currently investigating the claims. Strauss committed suicide in 2005.
Jordan has pointed out that Perkins Coie, the law firm handling the investigation, is the same one that helped Hillary Clinton’s campaign produce an unverified dossier accusing Trump of a number of disgusting transgressions. Jordan, along with two former wrestlers, also claimed the men making the accusations against the athletic doctor and Jordan have a “vendetta” against OSU and are “looking for a quick infusion of money.”
