A high school teacher in the Bronx who admitted performing oral sex on a 14-year-old student was only sentenced to 10 years’ probation and allowed to keep her teaching certificate. The teacher reportedly performed the act multiple times.
In August, Dori Myers, 30, who was arrested in January 2018, pleaded guilty to a criminal sex act for performing oral sex on the student in November 2017 at the New School for Leadership and the Arts in Kingsbridge where she taught social studies.
The school then fired her.
On Wednesday, the court labeled her a Level 1 sex offender, but the plea agreement that was struck jettisoned prosecutors’ request for a minimum of two years in prison.
As part of her plea agreement, Myers also got to keep her teaching certificate. Lucian Chalfen, a spokesman for the state Office of Court Administration, stated, “Each case is decided on its own merits. Whatever the negotiated plea entailed, all parties agreed to it.”
According to The New York Post, “The victim had also posted at least one pic on Snapchat cuddling with Myers under the heading ‘Me and my sexy asssss wife,’ according to sources.” The teen had told a classmate about his actions with Myers; the classmate informed a school administrator.
The Post reported that Myers’ husband, a Rockland County sheriff’s officer, was not in court on Wednesday, although he had accompanied her at other times.
