Just when we thought tampon earrings stupidity had reached insurmountable heights, Melissa Harris-Perry comes through with a comment that puts all others to shame. On Saturday, accompanied by an equally insane panel, the MSNBC race-baiter equated the deportation of illegal immigrants with the “Fugitive Slave Law.” Yes, really.
When discussing the disturbing water crisis in Flint, Michigan and its alleged effects on its illegal immigration population, such as a reluctance to accept aid out of fear of deportation, Harris-Perry made the outlandish comparison between deporting people who are here illegally to the Fugitive Slave Law which mandated those in the North to return runaway slaves back to their Southern slave owners. The divisive host also called for a “black/brown coalition” and made it a point to hit on the ever-important issue of Obama’s legacy, which she fretted would be “marred.”
“This does feel to me like potentially a black/brown coalition moment,” said the MSNBC host. “I don’t want the Obama administration’s final year to be marred by a fugitive slave law around the question of this deportation that leads in the context of Flint to actual children being actually poisoned by lead because their parents are too afraid to open the door for clean water.”
Because the segment wasn’t divisive and ridiculous enough, a comparably crazy panelist, Jamilah Lemieux, explained that if the horror of illegal immigrants being deported is happening under a president from the Democrat Party (AKA the morally superior party to Lemieux), then the possibility of a member from the evil Republican Party occupying the White House was “terrifying.”
“One of the most terrifying things about this moment for me is the possibility that a Republican can become the next president and that this precedent has been set by the Democrat that we can come into your house at 4 or 5 o’clock in the morning while you’re asleep and take you and your family away. So what happens next when we have candidates that have said I’m not letting Muslims in and I have no problem putting all you brown people out,” said Lemieux. “That’s terrifying!”
Although Harris-Perry’s roundup of panelists were equally insufferable, we have to hand it to tampon earrings: The Queen of Stupidity reigns.
