A Michigan family that has been missing for a week following a strange 911 call has been found safe in Wisconsin.
The Cirigliano family of four was found at around 11 a.m. on Sunday in Stevens Point, Wisconsin, WOOD-TV reported. All four family members have been interviewed, the outlet reported, and according to police, the family is “still of the opinion that people are after them, but the elements of the investigation do not meet the criteria for protective custody.”
The family disappeared on October 16 after Anthony Cirigliano, 51, called 911 to say he needed immediate police protection because he had information relating to September 11.
“It is of vital national interest,” Cirigliano calmly told a dispatcher, according to WZZM 13. “It is related to September 11th. And people want to erase me from the face of the earth. I’m not crazy. Mr. Geeting knows me. I’m a Christian. I just need some help. And then the US government will take it from here. I know this sounds crazy. You don’t have instructions for this. Please send someone that knows Geeting and can talk to US authorities, please.”
The dispatcher made sure that Cirigliano was not in possession of any weapons when he placed the call before sending police to the residence.
Fremont Police Chief Tim Rodwell said last week that the family probably left their home on October 17 between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m., the day after they were last heard from.
“We have no signs of foul play, no signs of struggle, no signs of violence inside the home. No property damage or anything like that. That would lead us to see if this was a suspicious issue,” Rodwell said, according to WZZM 13.
While Anthony and his wife Suzette, 51, along with their children Brandon, 19, and Noah, 15, all disappeared, they left behind their pets and Suzette’s mother, who requires full-time care. The mother, who suffers from dementia, was found walking around the neighborhood Monday night, WOOD-TV reported. She has since been in the care of other family members.
Family members told the outlet that police said last Tuesday and Wednesday the family was last known to have been in Iron Mountain, a town that sits on the Michigan/Wisconsin border and is about 400 miles from their home in Fremont. On Monday, however, the family was seen at a gas station in Upper Peninsula, about 300 miles from their home.
Police were able to make contact with the family and now say the investigation is closed.
“…we wish to thank all of those individuals who assisted in the investigation by calling in tips and sharing the information to help locate this family,” police said in a press release, according to WOOD-TV.
