[UPDATE] Matt Damon Delivers: Moving Family To Australia Because Trump

By  Paul Bois

UPDATE: According to the Associated Press, a spokesperson for Matt Damon is disputing the report from Page Six that the actor is moving to Australia in protest of the president:

Damon spokeswoman Jennifer Allen said Damon has been to Australia a lot recently. But Damon has not bought a home there nor is he relocating there, she said.

With the rise of President Trump, many celebrities from Barbara Streisand to Cher have vowed to migrate north to Canada or down under to Australia. None of them delivered . . . until now.

Ladies and gentlemen, according to Page Six, actor Matt Damon plans to move his family over to Australia to protest President Trump.

“Damon, 47, reportedly has purchased a property in Byron Bay, New South Wales,” reports Page Six. “The home’s next door to a place owned by Chris Hemsworth — with whom Damon recently appeared in ‘Thor: Ragnarok.'”

A source told the outlet, “Matt’s telling friends and colleagues in Hollywood that he’s moving the family to Australia” to protest President Trump’s policies.

“Matt’s saying the move will not impact his work — as he will travel to wherever his projects are shooting. He’s also telling friends he wants to have a safe place to raise his kids,” the source added.

The move could be to protest President Trump, or it could be to get away from the intense heat Damon took during the fallout of Harvey Weinstein. Being a longtime friend of the movie mogul, Damon took a serious hit to his credibility after The New York Times alleged that mega-producer Weinstein preyed on industry actresses for years. Though Damon denied having knowledge of Weinstein’s crimes, he did admit to knowing tacitly of Weinstein’s alleged harassment of actress Gwyneth Paltrow.

In December of last year, Damon endured the ire of feminists when he called Al Franken allegedly groping a woman a “terrible joke” and that he might be willing to “work with” comedian Louis C.K. following revelations that he masturbated in front of women.

“The Louis C.K. thing, I don’t know all the details,” said Damon. “I don’t do deep dives on this, but I did see his statement, which kind of, which [was] arresting to me. When he came out and said, ‘I did this. I did these things. These women are all telling the truth.’ And I just remember thinking, ‘Well, that’s the sign of somebody who — well, we can work with that’ … Like, when I’m raising my kids, this constant personal responsibility is as important as anything else they learn before they go off in the world.”

Damon also spoke of “a spectrum of behavior” regarding sexual harassment, citing the “difference between, you know, patting someone on the butt and rape or child molestation.”

The backlash came swiftly against Damon. Feminists excoriated him on social media and former co-stars publicly denounced him. Just last month, a petition was launched demanding Damon’s cameo in the upcoming reboot of “Ocean’s 8” be removed from the film.

After taking enough beatings, Damon finally told NBC “Today” that he would “close my mouth for a while.”

“I really wish I’d listened a lot more before I weighed in on this,” Damon said in reference to #MeToo. “Ultimately, what it is for me is that I don’t want to further anybody’s pain with anything that I do or say. And so for that I’m really sorry.”

Damon’s star-status also took a severe beating in 2017 with his two critical and box-office failures “Suburbicon” and “Downsizing.”
