All Texas Representative Louie Gohmert wants to do is cook his legendary barbeque ribs off his office balcony in the Capitol for his colleagues to enjoy, and yet the Architect of the Capitol won’t let him. On Friday, the Republican decided to take his beef to the House floor, lamenting the injustice in what might be some of the most comical commentary to ever hit the floor.
“About seven years ago, the Architect of the Capitol, who works for the House and Senate, had decided that we all work for him and started making demands. One of which was, I could not cook ribs and share them with other members of Congress,” complained a serious Gohmert.
According to Gohmert, “most of the networks” wanted to run news stories on his quarterly tradition of making his tasty ribs for his colleagues. Denied such a pleasure, the Architect of the Capitol apparently thought the make-shift barbeque joint off the office balcony would pose a fire hazard.
Thankfully, with the help of Speaker Paul Ryan and others, the conservative with a natural inclination to reject such intrusive regulation was able to work out a deal where his delicious ribs could feed the hungry bureaucrats once more.
The Texan also humble-bragged about his cooking ability, noting that his colleagues have said his ribs are the “the best meat they’ve ever tasted.”
“I have enough of my late mother in me that I enjoy cooking and enjoy people enjoying what I cook,” he stated. “It’s probably the only time here on Capitol Hill when I actually leave a good taste in people’s mouths instead of a bitter taste,” joked the conservative firebrand.
