Grab the popcorn, y’all! The feminist infighting has boiled to peak crazy, and it’s wonderfully entertaining.
Feminists are now attacking alleged comedian Amy Schumer for being — wait for it — too pretty.
Let me explain.
Schumer has a new movie coming out called “I Feel Pretty,” in which Schumer’s character, who longs to be supermodel-type beautiful, hits her head and suddenly sees herself as classically hot. The film actually looks cute, and dare I say funny, and is totally relatable to an overwhelming majority of women.
But as we’ve seen time and again, there is no pleasing hardcore feminists, who were immediately outraged (their natural state of being) over the “body positivity” film. You see, Schumer is just too hot.
Fellow “comedian” Sofie Hagen, for example, went on an epic rant about Schumer’s Western beauty and the new film. Among other things, Hagen found it problematic that Schumer is blonde, has white skin, and is able-bodied.
“So the new Amy Schumer movie is about a woman who is half an inch from being conventionally Hollywood attractive (but rest-of-the-world attractive) who thinks she’s rest-of-the-world-attractive?” she wrote via Twitter. “Amy Schumer is blonde, white, able-bodied, femme and yes, thin. She IS society’s beauty ideal. So they give her a ponytail and remove her make-up and suddenly she’s ugly? Why not just give her glasses or a fatsuit? What is wrong with this world?”
Schumer is also too skinny, per Hagen.
“Before we can enjoy the premise, surely we have to buy into the fact that she is not pretty. How many of us are bigger than her?” she asked.
The rant continued for a total of 13 long tweets, including some gems like the following:
This movie legit had to become SCI-FI for it to be realistic. Only in a MAGICAL universe could she possibly feel pretty. HER – blonde, white, thin, femme, cis, blah, she is ALL THE THINGS AND STILL SHE IS NOT CONSIDERED PRETTY.
Amy Schumer feels like Hollywood’s excuse. Like, LOOK, we put a FAT UGLY woman on TV because she has a teeny-tiny belly and also in this scene she doesn’t wear make-up, so now we’ve fixed it. We’re not longer shallow. Fuck the fuck off.
Also how about instead of her ‘hitting her head and damaging her brain’ in order to become so deluded that she’d think she was ACTUALLY pretty, she read about capitalism and realised that women’s low self-esteem is a patriarchal ploy and that she is worthy of self-love?
Yikes.
Feminist Kate Leaver, writing at The Independent, also complained: “Schumer has all the trappings of Western beauty standards. So this idea that, both in this movie and in her real life, she is some kind of grotesque outsider who dares to rebel against Hollywood aesthetics with the circumference of her waist is ridiculous.”
Leaver said Schumer’s new flick seems so “offensive and morbid it’s frankly exhausting.”
These people are insane, of course. Schumer is not ugly, they’re right. But that’s the point. Schumer’s flick actually battles insane and generally unattainable body standards in this way; she’s not a super model, but a healthy woman who should not feel less than for being imperfect. This is the most relatable feeling in the world. And Schumer doesn’t have to be a 900-pound monstrosity or transgender to demonstrate that — or, more accurately, to cater to your progressive causes. Nor should Schumer be shamed for being white. This is not a sin, either.
That’s right. I just defended Amy SJW Schumer. This is how crazy feminists have become.
