Conservative talk radio host Rush Limbaugh was in full form Thursday doing what he loves and does best: giving his audience a chance to laugh at the antics of the “Drive-by Media,” this time the “newsman” conservatives most love to mock.
“This is hilarious,” said Limbaugh, cuing his team to pull up an image of CNN chief White House correspondent and self-deemed champion of the people, Jim Acosta — or as Rush dubs him, the “little gnat.”
“You are looking here at a picture of Jim Acosta, the little gnat from CNN,” Limbaugh explained (transcript via RushLimbaugh.com). “He is in McAllen, Texas, in advance of Trump’s arrival there, his trip to the border. This picture accompanies a tweet. I didn’t put the actual text on the Dittocam. It might be too small. I’m gonna read it to you.”
Limbaugh then provided a dramatic reading of what “Acosta, the gnat,” tweeted: “I found some steel slats down on the border. But I don’t see anything resembling a national emergency situation.. at least not in the McAllen TX area of the border where Trump will be today.”
“This clown does not realize that he is making the case for a wall!” Limbaugh exclaimed. “The reason that there aren’t any illegals and the reason there isn’t a crisis is because there’s a steel slat wall, and he’s standing right next to it! No one is there because there is a wall there! They’re going elsewhere to cross the border because there’s a wall there. And there are people at the wall guarding it. But this clown thinks that he’s proving there’s no crisis by standing next to a wall and saying, ‘See? There’s nothing happening here. There’s no national emergency. No one’s here.'”
Rush then compared Acosta’s self-debunking observation to a famous Yogi Berra quote about the most popular restaurant in town: “Nobody goes there anymore, it’s too crowded.”
“This is just priceless,” Limbaugh added. “Jim the gnat Acosta. This is classic. He thinks he’s so much smarter than Trump. He’s so much smarter than anybody else and he’s standing there essentially making the case for a wall by pointing out there isn’t anybody at this wall and therefore there isn’t any national emergency. Translation: Trump’s so full of it and I’m down here very intelligently proving it.”
Limbaugh isn’t the only one having some fun with Acosta’s self-own; both Donald Trump Jr. and Sr. have gotten in on the Acosta-mocking action.
“Of course you don’t Jim,” wrote Trump Jr. in response to Acosta’s tweet. “That’s because walls work. Thanks for your help proving @realDonaldTrump’s point and simultaneously creating one of the best self-own videos ever!!!”
After Acosta tried to swipe back, Trump Jr. hit him again: “I know this might be hard for you to comprehend Jimbo, but the reason why all of Twitter has been mocking you today is because you were at a part of the border WITH A WALL. So yes, of course it was working. Replicate that across the border & we’ll all be safer.”
