The Left has resorted to drastic and hysterical measures to try and pressure Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) to vote “no” on Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court nomination.
On Sunday, the Associated Press reported the senator’s office has received some 3,000 coat hangers from activists across the country (so, not all from her own constituents), a disgusting display suggesting that Kavanaugh’s confirmation would lead to back-alley abortions since they assume Roe v. Wade would be overturned.
Activists have also raised $886,033 at the time of this writing via crowdpac, threatening to give that money to a future Democrat opponent if Collins votes to confirm Kavanaugh. The campaign says that if Collins votes “no” on Kavanaugh then no one would be charged “and no money will go to fund her future opponent.” But, if Collins votes to confirm Kavanaugh, then the money “will go to her opponent’s campaign, once that opponent has been identified.”
Collins has said she would make her decision after the hearings, and though the GOP certainly doesn’t want to lose her vote, it wouldn’t mean Kavanaugh would not be confirmed.
The GOP now has 51 votes in the senate, so losing one would result in a tie to be decided by Vice President Mike Pence. Kavanaugh still confirmed. Further, three senators facing tough re-elections who voted for Neil Gorsuch may vote to confirm Kavanaugh as well.
