Parkland activist David Hogg launched a new boycott aimed at destroying Fox News host Laura Ingraham on Tuesday after she commented on illegal immigrant children being separated from their parents on her show on Monday night.
“So since more illegal immigrants are rushing the border, more kids are being separated from their parents and temporarily housed in what are essentially summer camps or as the San Diego Union-Tribune described them today, is looking like, basically, boarding schools,” Ingraham said on “The Ingraham Angle.”
Ingraham clarified her statement later in the program, saying: “The San Diego Union-Tribune today described the facilities as essentially like what you would expect at a boarding school. So I will stick to there are some of them like boarding schools.”
Still, that was not enough for Hogg, who responded to her comments on Twitter by writing: “So @IngrahamAngle we meet again. Who are you biggest advertisers now?”
Hogg continued by calling out her advertisers in his attempts to silence her:
Unfortunately for Hogg, boycotts are not very effective as “their short-lived nature has led some observers to believe that such measures are mostly intended for the boycotting brands to save face and appease their customers, rather than to take an ethical stand,” The Wall Street Journal reports.
“Often [businesses] overreact because of the emotion—not because of the business impact,” Hugh Braithwaite, founder and president of Braithwaite Communications, a PR firm that specializes in crisis communications, told the WSJ.
Hogg’s newest attempt to silence Ingraham comes after his previous attempt not only failed but actually helped boost the ratings on her program by approximately 20%.
