Leaked Video Shows Arizona Democratic Senate Candidate Bashing Arizona

By  James Barrett

Video footage of a speech from 2011 by Democratic Senate candidate Kyrsten Sinema isn’t likely to help her attempts to endear herself to Arizona voters and portray herself as a moderate.

The video, which has begun to make the rounds on social media, shows Sinema portraying the state and its citizens as “crazy.”

“Arizona, coming to a state near you,” she said, eliciting some laughs. “Because over the past several years people would watch what was happening in Arizona and say, ‘Damn those people are crazy.’ Is it something with the water? No, the water’s fine, we stole it from Colorado. … They’re called Republicans.”

The last line got big laughs and applause from her audience. But she wasn’t done. “I want to talk to you about some of the things that I think that you can do to stop your state from becoming Arizona,” she said.

As Townhall’s Guy Benson points out, Sinema has been working to distance herself from her “past radicalism,” while Republicans have been making sure Arizonans don’t forget it:

The GOP has sought to highlight Democrat Kyrsten Sinema’s past radicalism — she protested the Afghanistan war in a pink tutu, and her organization portrayed American soldiers as murderous skeletons inflicting “US terror” — as well as her biographical…shall we say, enhancements. But in a blue-tinted year, with Democrats highly motivated, Sinema has held onto a modest lead. It will be fascinating to see whether she will maintain that lead post-Kavanaugh, and after this clip makes its way into the bloodstream, via news coverage and inevitable attack ads.

The Arizona seat is one of the seven true “toss-up” Senate seats, according the Real Clear Politics; Democrats need to win all seven of the toss-ups to win a 51-seat majority in the Senate. As The Daily Wire reported Thursday, a recent ABC 15/OH Predictive Insights poll found Sinema trailing Republican Martha McSally by 6 points. However, another recent poll by CBS News/YouGov found Sinema ahead by 3 and a Fox News poll gave the Democrat a 2-point lead.
