Last week, Israeli teenager Rina Shnerb celebrated her 17th birthday.

Today, she is dead, murdered by terrorists who reportedly threw a bomb at her, her 20-year-old brother, and her father as they were hiking at the Ein Bubin spring near Dolev. Rina’s brother Dvir suffered serious injuries and her father, Rabbi Eitan Shnerb, was moderately injured, according to Israel National News.

The terrorists escaped in their car; they are being hunted by the IDF. Israel National News noted, “Ein Bubin is also called ‘Danny’s Spring,’ after Danny Gonen, a Lod resident who was murdered there several years ago by a Palestinian Authority terrorist who had requested water.”

Rabbi Shnerb recalled:

I remember everything. We called the hotline and were told it was possible to enter [the spring]. We parked in the parking lot upstairs. When we got close to the spring, a large explosive device went off and everything turned black. I heard Dvir shouting, and I shouted “Rina, Rina.” I looked down, but after seeing Rina, I understood … Rina saved us all. She died the death of heroes. Her face was intact. I gave her a kiss and said to her: “We will be strong.”

He added, “My son Dvir is learning to become a paramedic. When he began to lose consciousness he said to me, ‘Dad, take off your shoes and pants, it will help the paramedics.’ That’s what he thought about. It is also time to say thank you to everyone who cared for us. We will move on, we have no choice, we have no other place. That’s what we educated our children and ourselves.”

The rabbi’s brother Shmulik added, “I was asked by her father, who is currently lying with injuries from all types of shrapnel and screws, and by her brother, Dvir, who is currently in surgery, to come and to say the following: Everyone should know, this incident strengthens us to become stronger in the Torah of Israel, in the land of Israel and in our grip on the land of Israel, and to connect with the people of Israel from all walks of life.”

Yamina Chairwoman and former Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked responded to the attack, saying, “It’s heartbreaking. A Jewish family who loves the State of Israel can’t go hiking in the Land of Israel. It’s a punch in the stomach; it hurts the sense of security each of every one of us has. Today it’s Dolev, tomorrow it’s Tel Aviv. Just this week I sat with the mother of Danny Gonen, and we talked about methods of deterrence. The security system needs to stop the transfer of salaries to terrorists imprisoned in Israeli jails, who carry out attacks and get paid for it. A terrorist who carries out an attack needs to know that his life will be ruined, not bettered. That’s the only way we’ll be able to live here. Jewish blood is not worthless.”

The young girl’s death comes after reports that Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas doubled down on the payments that flow from the Palestinian Authority to terrorists who murder Jews. He reportedly recently stated, “We will not accept their designation of our martyrs as terrorists. Our martyrs are the martyrs of the homeland. We will not allow them to deduct a single penny from their money. All the money will go back to them, because the martyrs, the wounded, and the prisoners are the most sacred things we have.”
