A new poll found that more than 70% of American voters in the 2022 midterm elections are not likely to vote for a candidate who supports allowing minors to undergo gender transition procedures.

According to the survey, nearly 80% of independent voters and 43% of Democrats join Republicans in opposing candidates who support allowing minors to medically transition.

“As with so many other election 2022 issues, the far left has gone too far in pushing unrestricted Transgender procedures for any child at nearly any age without any restrictions,” Mark Meckler, President of the Convention of States, said in a press release. “Voters–most of whom are parents–know that this policy goes wildly beyond common sense in a country where we restrict entertainment, alcohol use, medications, driving, voting, and even criminal sentencing for minors.”

The national survey, conducted by the Convention of States Action in partnership with The Trafalgar Group, polled more than 1,000 likely voters in late October. The voter profile consisted of 39.3% Democrat voters, 35.6% Republicans, and 25.1% independents or unaffiliated voters.

When asked if they were “more or less likely to vote for a candidate in the 2022 midterms elections who supports allowing underage minors to use puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and undergo sex- change surgeries,” the poll found that 63.3% of respondents said they were “not likely at all” and 9.4% say they were “somewhat less likely.”

79.2% of independent or unaffiliated voters, who can swing elections, say they are not likely to vote for a candidate in the 2022 midterm election who supports allowing minors to undergo medical transition, with 70.8% saying they were “not likely at all,” and 8.4% saying they were “somewhat less likely.”

42.7% of Democratic voters said they likely wouldn’t vote for a candidate who endorses the medical transition of minors, with 26.2% responding that they were “not likely at all” and 16.5% saying they “somewhat less likely” to vote for such a candidate.

The overwhelming majority of Republican voters—96.5%—are not likely to vote for a candidate who supports allowing minors to undergo gender transition procedures, with 93.2% saying that they were “not likely at all” and 3.3% saying they were “somewhat less likely.”

“Average Americans, regardless of party, have a sense that things are out of control and there are no adults in the room,” Meckler said. “When the autopsy is done on this coming midterm election, experts will find that unrestricted wokeness has had a major impact on voting decisions. Citizens expect responsible, common-sense policies on issues, and politicians so focused on pandering can’t see this and will pay the price.”

91% of Hispanics, 72.8% of Asians, 87% of black voters, 67.1% of white voters, and 86.5% of respondents of unspecified ethnicity all indicated that they were not likely to vote for a candidate in the 2022 midterm election who supports allowing minors to obtain puberty-blocking drugs, cross-sex hormones, and undergo gender-related surgeries.

The medical transition of minors is a contentious issue, and current polling indicates that it will play a significant role in determining the outcome of the 2022 midterm elections. President Biden recently doubled down on allowing minors full access to medical interventions in a video interview with transgender TikToker Dylan Mulvaney last month.

Medical organizations in the U.S. that endorse the “gender affirming” model of care lack evidence to substantiate the medical treatment of trans-identified minors and depart from a growing international consensus.

None of these U.S.-based organizations have done systematic reviews of the evidence, while arguably more leftist European countries like Sweden, Finland, and England have. After reviewing the evidence for the use of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones in treating pediatric gender dysphoria, health authorities in all three countries have decided to abandon the “gender-affirming” model, finding the costs outweigh the benefits.

Another recent poll found that more than 80% of American voters believe that Republicans will win control of one or both chambers of Congress after the midterm elections.

Additional polling from October found that nearly 75% of American voters with an opinion on the issue believe that the transgender movement has “gone too far” by encouraging underage minors to use drugs and surgeries to appear like the opposite sex. Another recent poll found that nearly 80% of American voters believe minors should be required to wait until they are adults to pursue transgender procedures.
