The media’s reaction to President Donald Trump’s visit to Pittsburgh is a perfect example of their strategy heading into the 2018 midterms — fling all sorts of nastiness into the national dialogue and try to get voters on the Democrat Party’s side. Bestselling author and Daily Wire podcast host Andrew Klavan broke down the ridiculous coverage of Trump’s trip, and explained why Trump’s characterization of the media was right on the money on Thursday’s episode of “The Andrew Klavan Show.”
“I was simply amazed at how much crap we have been dealt in these two years since Trump became president,” he said. “Now, it was going on before, this narrative that everybody was lovely, everything was rosy, we were traipsing around, we were all friends, and then Donald Trump came and everything went wrong. Not true.”
Klavan pointed out that the Left had stooped so low already as to call former President George W. Bush “Hitler” and claim that 2012 GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney was that “dog-killing guy who stuffs the women in binders.”
As he explains, the Left has been dealing this false narrative for a long time, but President Donald Trump enrages them by fighting back.
“But Trump amps up everything, and one of the ways Trump fights back against them is by throwing crap right back at them,” Klavan explained. “So that now it’s flying from all sides and we are left kind of trying to figure out where is the the real thing. But there is so much crap.”
Klavan then broke down how the media has abandoned their smear campaign of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh now that he has taken his place on the high court.
“Nobody’s covering it, why? Because the entire story was crap, it was just garbage,” he said.

I have to say, in the last couple of days as I have stepped back and looked around, I was simply amazed at how much crap we have been dealt in these two years since Trump became President. Now, it was going on before, this narrative that everybody was lovely, everything was rosy, we were traipsing around we were all friends, and then Donald Trump came and everything went wrong, not true. The media have been doing this for years and years, decades and decades. They called Bush “Hitler”, they called Mitt Romney the “dog-killing guy who stuffs the women in binders””, they have been dealing in crap for a long time. But Trump amps up everything, and one of the ways Trump fights back against them is by throwing crap right back at them, so that now it’s flying from all sides and we are left kind of trying to figure out where is the the real thing. But there is so much crap.
I mean think about the Russian collusion story, think about that. Is there any chance that Robert Muller is going to come out and say “oh yeah, Donald was on the phone to Vladimir. When Vlad met Don, you know it was just love at first sight, and they were talking ‘how can we affect this election.'” Google has tampered with this election more than the Russians ever tampered with the last election. I remember when Max Boot was on, he’s a smart guy but I think he’s lost his way, I do, I think Trump drives people crazy and I think Max Boot is on there saying “oh, well he stole the election with the Russians, and he colluded.” It’s just crap, it’s nonsense and they actually thought they were going to rewrite the results of the election. They still may have that hope, but I don’t think so. It’s interesting how it’s faded away. Molly Hemingway wrote a piece in The Federalist yesterday about “where’s the Kavanaugh story?” I mean, if Kavanaugh is a serial rapist shouldn’t there be a team of reporters following the story? I mean after all, no one is safe in the halls of the Supreme Court with that Kavanaugh running around. Ruth Bader Ginsberg is probably running around the desk, he’s chasing her around because we cannot trust this guy, he’s spiking the punch, they’re lining up and having gang rapes and all this, that’s what’s now happening in the Supreme Court. Nobody’s covering it, why? Because the entire story was crap, it was just garbage.
Even the #metoo movement. I actually have sympathy with the #metoo movement, the core of the #metoo movement, the idea that women should be able to go to work and be treated politely and professionally. I don’t think that means you can’t look at a picture of Meghan Markle and say she’s a cutie pie, I don’t think that means that you can’t flirt, I don’t think that means you can’t date. If people couldn’t date at work a lot of people wouldn’t be married and have kids today. But the #metoo movement was hijacked almost instantaneously, and what the #metoo movement really became is the dross of feminism, it’s the result of feminism, the result of the sexual revolution.
So now all of this is just garbage, and the latest thing is of course this anti-semitism meme that the left is trying to play up as we come into the last days before the midterm, that somehow this tragedy that took place – this atrocity I should call it – that took place in Pittsburgh is somehow the fault of Republicans or Donald Trump. The only people in America who support Israel, the only people where you don’t have the BDS movement, the divest from Israel, the boycott Israel movement. So Trump goes to Pittsburgh to comfort the people and to attend the funeral, and he complains about the coverage. I just want to show you where we stand with this, Trump complains about the coverage and he makes a speech in Florida where he talks about how they covered his trip to Pittsburgh.
Donald Trump: Yesterday’s visit to Pittsburgh was about coming together as a nation to comfort and to heal. After this day of unity and togetherness, I came home and sadly turned on the news and watched as the far-left media once again used tragedy to sow anger and division…Sadly they took a small group of protesters far away from where we were, because we could not have been treated better the first lady and myself, but we’re representing the Presidency, and they did everything in their power to try to play it up and push people apart. That’s what’s happening, their pushing people apart. it was fake and it was make-believe what they said. I came home, looked forward to seeing it and it was sad, and when we talk about division this is a big part of the division right there.”
Let’s take a look at their coverage a little bit.
ABC News: “The first family, following the Jewish custom of leaving stones to honor the dead, but it is a much different trip than the White House had planned. Just half a block away, neighbors shouting down the President. Nearby more than a thousand protesters carrying signs saying “words matter”, “stop encouraging hate”, and “you are not welcome in Pittsburgh until you fully denounce white nationalism.”
Trump’s right, that was the coverage. Look, a thousand protesters, I would put that in a story, I would definitely mention that in a story, but you can get a thousand Democrats to show up and protest virtually anything, that the sky is blue “oh that’s sexist” – that’s the way the Democrats think. Here’s something they didn’t show, and the only reason I found it was because this was tweeted out on internet. This is a handheld piece of film that somebody in the hospital, obviously part of the hospital staff. President Trump and Mrs. Trump and his entourage and Ivanka are all walking by and a bunch of the workers in the hospital call to them all, they want is to say thank you. All they want to do is touch him, shake his hand, and he stopped, brought the entourage over, shook their hands and told them what a great job they were doing. Kidded around with the surgeon, saying are you allowed to shake Trump’s hand when you want your hands sterilized. The media wanted to cover it, believe me, they wanted to show that on the network’s, they really did, they wanted to lead with that on the networks but the dog ate it and they got lost and their car crashed and they ran out of gas and they just couldn’t get that on, but they could get on a long interview with one protester showing somebody shouting, they could get that on.
It’s literally true, it just emphasizes so much of what we’re seeing is crap, is meant to show this kind of onslaught of protest, this resistance is so big, it’s so great. The resistance is real, I’m not saying that that’s an illusion, I’m just saying that the resistance is real and then this echo chamber broadcasts it and makes it a big deal.
