Kavanaugh Accuser Ford Will Turn Over Polygraph Results, Therapy Notes — Only If Interviewed By FBI

Lawyers for Christine Blasey Ford, who has accused Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct 36 years ago when they were in high school, say they will not hand over her therapist’s note or results from her polygraph test unless she is interviewed by the FBI.

Lawyers Debra Katz and Lisa Banks said in a letter to Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-IA) that they are “prepared” to hand over the documents “when she is interviewed.”

“Dr. Ford is prepared to provide those documents to the FBI when she is interviewed,” the brief letter said. “We have not yet heard from the FBI about scheduling an interview with her.”

Ford claims she told her therapist about an alleged sexual attack by in 2012, but acknowledges she did not name him. During last Thursday’s Judiciary Committee hearing, GOP prosecutor Rachel Mitchell asked several questions about whether Ford handed those notes over to The Washington Post, or simply recounted their contents. Ford said she couldn’t remember — even though it happened less than two months ago.

The committee has also received only the final results of a polygraph test taken by Ford but not the underlying data, which experts say is crucial in determining the validity of the test.

Grassley had demanded the documents in a letter Tuesday.

“I write to renew my requests for material evidence relevant to allegations of sexual assault made by your client, Dr. Christine Blasey Ford, against Judge Brett Kavanaugh. During the hearing last week, Senator Kamala Harris argued that it was only fair for senators on the Committee to see the evidence that the witness was being asked to address. The same principle applies to this request,” Grassley wrote in a letter to Katz, Banks and Michael Bromwich. “Your continued withholding of material evidence despite multiple requests is unacceptable as the Senate exercises its constitutional responsibility of advice and consent for a judicial nomination. I urge you to comply promptly with my requests.”

Grassley specifically requested the therapist’s notes and the documents supporting the polygraph test.

“These notes have been repeatedly cited as corroboration even while written 30 years after the alleged event and in apparent contradiction with testimony and other public statement regarding several key details of the allgeations, including when the alleged attack occurred, how many individuals were present in the bedroom in which the attack was alleged to have occurred, and how many individuals attended the party,” Grassley said.

On the polygraph test, Grassley requested “all audio or video recording produced” during the test.

“Dr. Ford cited the results of this polygraph examination to support her allegations. It’s unfair to rely on the results of a polygraph examination while withholding the materials necessary to assess the accuracy of the results,” Grassley said. “The full details of Dr. Ford’s polygraph are particularly important because the Senate Judiciary Committee has received a sworn statement from a longtime boyfriend of Dr. Ford’s, stating that he personally witnessed Dr. Ford coaching a friend on polygraph examinations.”

It all appears too late now. The FBI has given its report to the White House and senators began reading its findings on Thursday.
