Comedienne Kathy Griffin’s exile lasted barely a year. After an appearance on “The View,” an interview in GQ mag, and now an award for LGBTQ activism, it’s safe to say that Hollywood has every intention of welcoming her back into the fold.
The woman who posed with a bloodied, severed head of President Trump has been given the “Rainbow Key Award” from West Hollywood for raising $5 million in HIV/AIDS services, Page Six reports.
The award was presented to Griffin by West Hollywood Mayor John Duran.
During her acceptance speech, Griffin told members of the gay community that they have to “pick a side” in the era of President Trump or else face the consequences. She also defended comedienne Samantha Bee calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless c**t” on her television show.
Clearly, punching below the belt is not only okay, but rewarded.
“I’ve been the person that daddy made pay and it’s not going to happen anymore on my watch,” Griffin said in reference to her brief exile.
“So, when we have our first gay president, which I hope to see, I just want you to know that for all I’ve put up with in the last 25 years, I better be invited to a state dinner and I want to stay in the Lincoln bedroom,” she said. “I’ve put in my time.”
Billboard framed Griffin’s big moment on Tuesday night as a “comeback.”
“Griffin is in the midst of a comeback following controversy and personal and professional setbacks after she posed for a photo holding a fake dismembered Donald Trump head in May 2017,” the outlet reported.
So, essentially the Overton window has moved to include calling women “c**ts” and joking about executing a man ISIS-style, whereas advocating for free speech on college campuses gets met with black-clad anarchists and a $600,000 security bill.
