In response to President Trump working to free rapper A$AP Rocky from Swedish prison, pop star Justin Bieber called him out to free the children allegedly in cages at the southern border.
“I want my friend out.. I appreciate you trying to help him. But while your [sic] at it @realDonaldTrump can you also let those kids out of cages?” Bieber tweeted on Saturday.
Rapper A$AP Rocky was arrested in Sweden after getting into an altercation with two men who were harassing his entourage. On Friday, President Trump said he was calling the Swedish PM to ensure his fair treatment after consulting with Kanye West and other members of the American black community.
“A$AP Rocky is a situation in Sweden. Sweden’s a great country and they’re friends of mine, the leadership. And we are going to be calling, we’ll be talking to them, we’ve already started and many, many members of the African-American community have called me — friends of mine, and said could you help?” Trump told reporters last week, according to ABC News.
Later on Friday, the president tweeted that he was personally consulting with rapper Kanye West on Rocky’s incarceration.
“Just spoke to @KanyeWest about his friend A$AP Rocky’s incarceration. I will be calling the very talented Prime Minister of Sweden to see what we can do about helping A$AP Rocky. So many people would like to see this quickly resolved!” Trump tweeted.
As to those kids allegedly kept in cages that Justin Bieber referenced: According to a report last week, the Trump administration has reunited 95% of the children detained at the southern border with their families. From The Daily Wire’s Ashe Schow:
The report, from Republicans on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, looked at data produced by the Trump administration’s Department of Health and Human Services and found that 95% of children who had been discharged from HHS custody had been “reunified with an individual sponsor or released to a parent.”
The data provided had identified 2,648 children who were believed to have been separated at the southern border. The committee only had data from HHS on 1,619 of those children, but found that 99% had been discharged from HHS custody.
“Of the 1,603 discharged children, 1,546 children — or 95% — were either reunified with an individual sponsor or released to a parent. Specifically, 1,061 children were released to a parent and 485 children were reunified with an individual sponsor,” said the report.
Justin Bieber is not exactly known for getting his facts right on certain political causes, such as when he said that racism is worse than ever when he endorsed the Black Lives Matter movement.
“I am a white Canadian and I will never know what it feels like to be an African-American but what I do know is I am willing to stand up and use my voice to shine light on racism, because it’s a real thing and it’s more prevalent now than I have ever seen in my lifetime,” Bieber wrote on Instagram in 2017. “We are all Gods children and we are ALL EQUAL.”
However, Justin Bieber shocked Christians and social conservatives everywhere when he told Vogue earlier this year that he imposed a yearlong celibacy on himself prior to his marriage to honor God’s call to chastity.
“Sometimes people have sex because they don’t feel good enough. Because they lack self-worth,” Bieber said. “Women do that, and guys do that. I wanted to rededicate myself to God in that way because I really felt it was better for the condition of my soul. And I believe that God blessed me with Hailey as a result. There are perks. You get rewarded for good behavior.”
