Joy Behar took a moment on Tuesday to “whitesplain” racism to two prominent black conservatives – Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas and Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.).

Behar, who is white, made the comments during ABC’s midday broadcast of “The View,” and she argued that neither Thomas nor Scott – who had just announced his 2024 presidential campaign a day earlier – truly knew what it was like to be a black man in the United States of America.

“[Tim Scott] is one of these guys who — you know, he’s like Clarence Thomas — a black Republican who believes in pulling yourself by your bootstraps rather than, to me, understanding the systemic racism that African Americans face in this country and other minorities.”

“He doesn’t get it,” she continued, adding, “Neither does Clarence, and that’s why they’re Republicans.”

Co-host Sunny Hostin, who is biracial, agreed, and the audience laughed. Both Hostin and Behar have attacked Thomas previously – Hostin claimed that the black conservative Justice did not really “represent” the black community, and Behar accused him of being “to the right of Attila the Hun.”

Co-host Whoopi Goldberg had also recently gone after both Thomas and Scott as well. Just after the Supreme Court delivered the Dobbs decision overturning the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade, Goldberg suggested that interracial marriages might be next on the chopping block. “You better hope they don’t come for you, Clarence,” she said, noting that Thomas is married to a white woman.

Several months later, Goldberg joked that she couldn’t tell the difference between Tim Scott (R-S.C.) and Rick Scott (R-FL) without a visual aid.

“We do deserve to have two strong parties,” Goldberg said during a discussion about former Governor Nikki Haley (R-SC) announcing a 2024 presidential bid. “So, you know, Tim Scott, black Tim Scott, right? Because there are two Scotts and I don’t know how to differentiate them without a picture. Rick Scott and Tim Scott. Tim Scott is black, right? Okay … He’s about to run — announce he’s running.”

Scott officially announced his candidacy on Monday.
