<p><a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/john-stamos-full-house-cast-post-statement-on-bob-sagets-death" target="_blank" rel="noopener">John Stamos</a> recalled the moment he realized he had to &#8220;sober up&#8221; and kick his alcohol addiction once and for all, something he said he had been battling for a long time.</p>
<p>In the 60-year-old actor&#8217;s upcoming memoir &#8220;If You Would Have Told Me,&#8221; the &#8220;Full House&#8221; star said he had a lot of highs and lows on his path to sobriety, but the turning point was a driving under the influence (DUI) incident in 2015, <a href="https://people.com/john-stamos-recalls-moment-had-to-straighten-up-amid-alcohol-addiction-exclusive-8362740?utm_campaign=people&amp;utm_medium=social&amp;utm_source=instagram&amp;utm_content=likeshop" target="_blank" rel="noopener">People magazine</a> reported.</p>
<p>&#8220;I had to sober up. I was just drinking too much,&#8221; Stamos said. &#8220;I just went low. I didn&#8217;t go high. I just surrounded myself with people I shouldn&#8217;t have been with.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I had that DUI and I was like, &#8216;I can&#8217;t do this. I&#8217;ve got to straighten up,'&#8221; he added. &#8220;That&#8217;s when I was confusing the universe because I&#8217;m not a bad person, but I was doing crappy things.&#8221;</p>
<p>Not long after the DUI, Stamos admitted <a href="https://people.com/celebrity/john-stamos-enters-rehab-for-substance-abuse-people-exclusive/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">himself to rehab</a>, which he said &#8220;was dark for a little bit.&#8221; But, he added,&#8221;it started to get better&#8221; and he ended up making a &#8220;lot of really good friends.&#8221;</p>

<p>&#8220;I had a lot waiting for me, and I feel bad because a lot of people don&#8217;t, because they burned their lives down,&#8221; the &#8220;Fuller House&#8221; star said. &#8220;Luckily, I had my sisters, but I also had &#8216;Fuller House.&#8217; I got home and I think like a week later, we started &#8216;Fuller House.'&#8221;</p>
<p>The Netflix reboot of the popular sitcom &#8220;Full House,&#8221; which ran from 1987-1995, began filming, and in 2016 it was available on the streaming site. Stamos was joined by other originals from the series like <a href="https://www.dailywire.com/news/youre-going-to-be-a-disciple-for-me-candace-cameron-bure-thanks-god-for-taking-her-out-of-acting-for-10-years" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Candace Cameron Bure</a>, Bob Saget, and Jodie Sweetin. It was a hit and ran for the next four years.</p>
<p>Stamos credits his wife of five years, Caitlin McHugh Stamos, and their 5-year-old son for helping him stay sober.</p>
<p>&#8220;They have kept me on this path because going down the road of being sober and taking care of yourself, everybody tries,&#8221; the actor said. &#8220;Everybody does it. You could get going for a little while. Then, it&#8217;s like, &#8216;I can drink again.&#8217; So it&#8217;s staying on the path is what they mostly do for me.&#8221;</p>
<p>&#8220;If You Would Have Told Me&#8221; is due out Tuesday, October 24.</p>
