JFK Library to Give Obama a ‘Profile in Courage’ Award

   DailyWire.com

According to the the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library Foundation website, the “Profile in Courage” award is given to “modern-day elected officials who govern for the greater good, even when it is not in their own interest to do so. The award celebrates individuals who choose the public interest over partisanship – who do what is right, rather than what is expedient.”

This year’s recipient of the Profile in Courage award is Barack Obama, for “expanding health security for millions of Americans, restoring diplomatic relations with Cuba and leading a landmark international accord to combat climate change,” according to the foundation.

The Boston Globe reports that the award is selected by a “bipartisan 14-member committee.” However, it doesn’t take a detective to see that the allegedly “bipartisan” committee is heavily slanted toward the left.

Of the 14 committee members, nine are identifiably liberal, while several others have mixed allegiances. Not a single member of the committee is an identifiable conservative.

Additionally, it appears that recipients of the award must pass an ideological litmus test.

Over the last five years, winners include former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, Governor Dannel Malloy, Mayor Paul Bridges, former Congressman Bob Inglis, and George H.W. Bush. All recipients received the award for behaving like progressives. Giffords for advocating gun control; Malloy for refusing to turn away Syrian refugees in Connecticut; Bridges for standing against an illegal immigration bill; Inglis for converting from a climate change skeptic to a believer; and Bush for raising taxes after saying he wouldn’t.

Given the committee’s political leanings, it should come as no surprise that Obama is the 2017 recipient of the JFK “Profile in Courage” award.

Would the award ever be given to someone like Senator Ted Cruz (R-TX) for calling out ethanol subsidies in Iowa just prior to the state’s primary, or Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) for refusing to endorse Donald Trump, despite pressure from the Republican establishment? Unlikely.

The “Profile in Courage” award is yet another deeply partisan game, and because of that, it has little to no value.
