Jada Pinkett Smith’s former lover August Alsina, who’s credited with bringing the couple’s affair to light in 2020, just came out with a new song referencing the situation. The 29-year-old recording artist teased part of the song this week on Instagram. One line in particular has fans buzzing as it alludes to his time with Smith, which she later referred to as an “entanglement.”
“Well, of course some s*** is bound to go down when you tangled up with the world’s favorite,” Alsina sings in the clip.
The R&B star also references the fallout from his admission of getting entangled with Jada. In another lyric, he sings: “I heard I was canceled. Well, let’s not speak on that. Red dot on my back, I became a target. And I’m flawed but flawless, that’s what makes me August.”
The timing of this song release coincides with the Smiths making headlines for an altercation at the 2022 Academy Awards. When comedian Chris Rock made a joke about Jada’s bald head, Will Smith ran up on stage and slapped him, prompting a huge backlash from the entire Hollywood community. Many fans questioned how Will could get so upset over a joke but be fine with his wife getting involved sexually with other men, including Alsina.
The new song from the R&B star prompted a mix of reactions, with some Twitter followers questioning why Alsina was still hung up on Jada all these years later.
“If, August Alsina, don’t let that entanglement GO! D***! That’s probably why she ain’t f***ing with you now talking like a Barbie!” one person wrote.
This isn’t the first time Alsina wrote a song referencing the situation. After the infamous “Red Table Talk” episode aired where Will and Jada discussed the affair openly, the R&B star released a song with Rick Ross called “Entanglements.”
While rumors of the Smiths open marriage began in 2013, it was Alsina who confirmed he had personally had an affair with Jada. Rumors got so pervasive in 2020 that Will and Jada appeared on an episode of “Red Table Talk” to address them outright.
Jada explained how Alsina was experiencing some addiction and health issues and originally, she just wanted to help him. “It all started with him just needing some help … me wanting to help his health, his mental state,” she said. The mom of two also explained how she and Will were separated at the time.
“I was done with your a**,” Will added. “Marriages have that. We decided that we were going to go separate for a period of time, and you go figure out how to make yourself happy, and I’ll figure out how to make myself happy … I really felt like we could be over.”
Jada said, “At that point in time, it was indefinite.” That’s when she called her relationship with Alsina an “entanglement.”
“It was a relationship,” she said. “I was very broken. In the process of that relationship I definitely realized you can’t find happiness outside of yourself. And luckily enough, you and I were also going through a process of healing in a much different manner. “
“I just wanted to feel good,” she continued. “It had been a long time since I’d felt good. And it was really a joy to just help somebody. I think that has lot to do with my co-dependency. Which is another thing that I had to learn to break in the cycle. Just the idea of needing to fix and being drawn to people that need help.”
Jada also said she didn’t regret getting involved with Alsina.
