She may have loved America, but Hulu didn’t love her. Now leftist comedienne Sarah Silverman is out of a show.
Bummer.
According to Fox News, Silverman’s “I Love You, America” will not be renewed for another season after a 21-episode run. The show featured Silverman traversing across America to participate in flyover country life as a means to understand those rubes who vote Republican.
On Twitter, the comedienne expressed her disappointment with Hulu’s decision to ax her show. “Well, Hulu canceled I LOVE YOU AMERICA and we’re all pretty damn heartbroken,” Silverman shared. “… So in traditional twitter funeral style, I’ll be RTing the love.”
In a statement to The Wrap, the internet channel “Funny or Die,” which backed Silverman’s show, congratulated Sarah on a job well done.
“We are so proud of ‘I Love You, America’ and congratulate Sarah, the producers and the entire team for engaging thoughtful conversation and showcasing such diverse points of view every week,” Funny or Die said to The Wrap. “Whether it was connecting with firemen in Mineola, Texas over ‘pooping their pants’ stories, or going on a blind date with a conservative lobbyist in D.C., Sarah’s commitment was boundless and there is nothing more to say than ‘we lerve you’ to the whole crew.”
Exactly why Hulu decided to cancel “I Love You, America” remains unknown at this time. The Wrap speculates the cancelation comes as part of a larger trend in streaming.
“‘I Love You America’ is the latest topical series to be canceled by a streaming network, as questions remain about the viability of a contemporary series in an on-demand environment,” reports the outlet. “Last year, Netflix canceled its late-night series with Joel McHale and Michelle Wolf— though it still has Hasan Minhaj’s ‘The Patriot Act.'”
Upon launching the show, Sarah Silverman claimed she wanted to connect with people whose views she often disagrees with. As noted by LifeNews, however, “I Love You, America” routinely showed mean-spirited contempt for the views of the people Silverman apparently wanted to dignify.
