On Friday, sounding like his new master, Donald Trump, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee told Sean Hannity that establishment Republicans should be happy that they haven’t been executed for their complicity in getting the Iran nuclear deal and Obamacare passed and allowing Planned Parenthood to be funded.
Huckabee blustered:
Who made it possible for Obama to have the Iranian deal, full funding for Obamacare, Planned Parenthood funding? Republicans did that … And they’re getting what they justly deserve, they’re getting spanked. And they need to be happy they’re only getting spanked and not executed, because there is seething rage out in the country for those who have fought to help some of these guys get elected, and they get there and they surrender to Obama and people are sick of it. And I think that’s why we’ve seen the spirit of this election, and frankly Donald Trump gives me great comfort. I tell people, “I don’t have any hesitation going out there and genuinely supporting Donald Trump.”
Huckabee ripped Mitt Romney for his open opposition to Trump, even lying about Romney’s record, claiming Romney was the first governor to allow same-sex marriage in his state and marching in gay pride parades. In fact, Romney opposed repealing Massachusetts’ same-sex marriage ban. In Trump-like fashion, Huckabee proceeded to sound even more vulgar, adding, “I find it especially off-putting that he is the one who has led the ‘Never Trump’ movement, and I just feel like that he has really soiled himself by taking such a harsh position.”
Speaking of soiling oneself, on Monday Huckabee hotly defended Trump for his racist comments regarding Trump University judge Gonzalo Curiel, ignoring the racism rump displayed and snapping, “He’s Donald Trump. He’s going to do what he’s going to do. If I were giving him advice, and he’s not asked for it, but here’s what it would be: Turn the focus on the fact that this is a civil case. He’s under no criminal investigation like Hillary is. She’s under a criminal investigation for things she did with taxpayer dollars.”
Asked if Trump was beyond control, Huckabee replied, “No, I don’t think it’s that. I think he’s a man of great passion. If something hits him personally, he hits back personally, and I think that’s what’s going on.”
