OK, now it might be time to start worrying about Hillary Clinton’s sanity (she does fall down and konk her head a lot).
Last week, the 71-year-old suggested she ran “the best campaign” in 2016 (although somehow she forgot to go to Wisconsin), but that she had the election “stolen” from her.
On Wednesday, she took that up a notch.
The two-time loser popped up to Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire Wednesday evening, where she made an even more outrageous claim — that Russian President Vladimir Putin and the foreign military intelligence agency of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation (GRU) decided the last presidential election.
“If you are an American, the idea that our election is being trifled with, being impacted and maybe being determined by Putin and the Kremlin and his Intelligence service in the military — the GRU, all of their assorted allies and agents,” Hillary said. “That should give us heartburn.”
Clinton has never explained exactly how Russia “determined” the election, although the mainstream media runs her claims weekly. She lost Wisconsin, Michigan, Minnesota, Iowa, Florida and Pennsylvania — which former president Barack Obama won twice — and got shellacked in the Electoral College, 304-227. She did win the popular vote, but Trump won 2,626 counties nationwide to Clinton’s 487 counties — another landslide.
Apparently, her claim is that millions and millions of voters saw “fake news” stories posted by Russian bots and decided to vote for Donald Trump.
In her Dartmouth speech, Clinton offered an anecdote about what she called “conspiracy fetishizing” in the 2016 campaign, recounting what she heard from some lifelong friends who were out knocking on people’s doors.
“They’d say they were there to ask the person to vote for me, and the person might say, ‘I couldn’t do that; she’s a murderer’,” Clinton said. “I mean, friends from grade school saying, ‘no, she’s not.’ ‘Oh, yeah; I saw it on the internet.’ Well, wouldn’t you think I’d be, as they used to say, locked up by now if that were the case?”
On Saturday, Hillary appeared with husband Bill Clinton at The Forum in Los Angeles for another installment of their national tour, “An Evening With the Clintons.” Actor Ted Danson, who played host for the evening, asked Hillary what advice she would give to the slew of 2020 presidential candidates now running for the Democratic nomination.
“Keep your eye on the whole landscape as it is moving forward,” she said. “I think it’s also critical to understand that, as I’ve been telling candidates who have come to see me, you can run the best campaign, you can even become the nominee, and you can have the election stolen from you.”
The crowd ate it up. “And that, my friends, has nothing to do with the economy, does it?” added Clinton. “And so part of our challenge is to understand what it will take to put together not just the popular vote but the electoral college” as well.
Hillary said the report from special counsel Robert Mueller “not only decisively proves, but goes chapter and verse about how the Russians — in the words of the report — conducted ‘a sweeping and systemic interference in our election.’ And then you wake up and your president is spending an hour on the phone with Vladimir Putin, who was the mastermind of the interference and attack on our election.”
Clinton is still surprised that she lost in 2016, but then again, she is easily surprised.
