Hillary Advisor’s Son Rips Wiesel After Death

While the rest of the world rightly mourned the death of Nobel laureate and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel this weekend, Max Blumenthal, son of Hillary Clinton’s longtime confidant, Sid Blumenthal, declared that Wiesel “did more harm than good and should not be honored.”

Wiesel died Saturday at the age of 87, after a life spent fighting against genocide and anti-Semitism and championing Israel and Western values. Despite Wiesel’s widely recognized contributions, which earned him a Nobel Peace Prize in 1986, Blumenthal, a Jew who is openly hostile to Israel, views the famous Night author’s life work as something to be lamented, not celebrated.

“Elie Wiesel went from a victim of war crimes to a supporter of those who commit them,” tweeted Blumenthal Saturday, after news of Wiesel’s death. “He did more harm than good and should not be honored.”

Wiesel’s crimes, according to Blumenthal, include his support of Jewish settlers, whom he described as being engaged in “ethnically cleansing” East Jerusalem of Palestinians, “defending apartheid” in Israel, denying the Armenian genocide, “palling around with fascists,” and accepting money from Pastor John Hagee, a “hate preacher.”

“Elie Wiesel is dead. He spent his last years inciting hatred, defending apartheid & palling around with fascists,” Blumenthal wrote in another tweet, adding in another: “Elie Wiesel repeatedly lauded Jewish settlers for ethnically cleansing Palestinians in East Jerusalem.”

Blumenthal has broadcast his virulently anti-Israel positions for years, repeatedly describing the country as an “apartheid state.” His reference to Wiesel as a supporter of those who have committed “war crimes” falls in line with his strongly anti-Western definition of war crimes, as his many comparisons of Israel to Nazi Germany underscore.

Blumenthal’s father is an integral part of Clinton’s inner circle and has received hundreds of thousands through his connections with her, including being paid a reported $120,000 a year as one of her advisers. As a number of reports have highlighted, Clinton’s email trail shows that the elder Blumenthal repeatedly shared anti-Israel articles from his son with Clinton.

Wiesel won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for his work fighting against genocide, fascism, and anti-Semitism. His award-winning harrowing and heartbreaking memoir Night chronicled the horrors of Auschwitz concentration cramp, which he survived but not before witnessing the death of many close friends and family members.
