Here’s The Facebook Post On Ocasio-Cortez That Got Two Officers Fired

Two police officers in Louisiana were fired Monday over a Facebook post suggesting that far-left Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez deserves to be shot.

The officers, both of whom worked for the police department in Gretna, Louisiana, were axed Monday for what the chief of police described as their “unprofessional” conduct.

The post targeting Ocasio-Cortez, written by Officer Charlie Rispoli, described the freshman congresswoman as a “vile idiot” who “needs a round … and I don’t mean the kind she used to serve” when she was a bartender, a reference to the job she held before being elected in a surprise primary victory against the Democratic incumbent in 2018. Rispoli’s fellow officer Angelo Varisco “liked” the post.

“This vile idiot needs a round….and I don’t mean the kind she used to serve,” wrote Rispoli, linking to an article posted by “Taters Gonna Tate” falsely claiming Ocasio-Cortez said that “we pay soldiers too much.”

“[I]t seems the Baby Boss has been perusing the proposed budget sheet for the upcoming months, and had her little mind blown by what she saw, leading her to proclaim in an open session of Congress that: ‘Wow! We pay soldiers WAY too much!'” the debunked article claims.

The “needs a round” comment was brought to the attention of Gretna Police Chief Arthur Lawson by The Times-Picayune on Friday. In a press conference Monday, Chief Lawson announced that both officers had been terminated and condemned the post as “an embarrassment” to the department.

“This incident, we feel, has been an embarrassment to our department. These officers certainly acted in a manner which was unprofessional,” said Lawson, in comments reported by Louisiana CBS affiliate WWL TV. “Alluding to a violent act to be conducted against a sitting U-S Congressman, a member of our government, we’re not going to tolerate that,” he stressed.

Lawson told the press that no criminal charges would be filed against the officers for the post. The comment, he suggested, was more of a “heat of the moment” post than a real threat.

“I think he just got caught up in the heat of the moment,” said Lawson. “I mean, this wasn’t even a real news article.” While it’s a “tough lesson” for both former officers, he said, he hoped it’s “a lesson learned.”

When asked by The Washington Post if the U.S. Capitol Police perceived the post as a real threat, a spokeswoman declined to respond. “We do not discuss how we carry out our protective responsibilities for Congress,” the spokeswoman said.

Ocasio-Cortez has recently ramped up her criticism of law enforcement personnel, particularly those working for Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) and Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), whom she has accused of inhumane treatment of immigrants. She has repeatedly accused CBP of running “concentration camps” of illegal immigrants, comments that have earned the ire of many former and present CBP agents online.
