Kim Kardashian has some thoughts on how to prevent future school shootings. Like many other celebrities and politicians, the reality star believes stricter gun laws are the answer.

The 41-year-old TV personality shared her thoughts in an impassioned social media post Wednesday, per the Daily Mail. In the wake of the Texas tragedy that left 19 elementary school children dead, Kardashian pleaded for lawmakers to “put children first” by making it harder to own firearms.

The mother of four started out by reminding followers of a blog post she’d written four years ago, which asked, “Is it more important to protect the second amendment that to protect our own children?”

Kardashian said in her Instagram stories, “I find myself heartbroken, disgusted, and furious about how little has been done by law makers to enact gun laws that protect our children.”

“There is no excuse and no justification for what happened yesterday,” she continued. “The current laws in our country around gun control are not protecting our children. We have to push law makers to enact laws that are fitting in today’s world.”

Kardashian goes on to discuss how no 18-year-old should be able to own a firearm, and that the legal age to buy a gun should be “addressed and increased.”

“There are of course people over 21 who buy guns to cause harm, and other mass shootings in recent years have been carried out by people over 21, but if we increase legal age to purchase, coupled with a ban on assault weapons, we can without a doubt reduce the number of senseless tragedies and save children’s lives,” the reality star wrote.

She went on, “We can’t accept this as normal anymore. It’s not normal for a teenager to kill children. It’s not normal for our kids to be practicing active shooter drills in schools. It’s not normal to be shot while shopping for groceries. I’m not numbed by it. I will never be numbed by it.”

Kardashian also blames “mental health, racism, and deep-seated hatred” as factors that lead to mass shooting events. However, she says limiting “access to weapons” will make a difference in the number of times these incidents occur.

The 18-year-old suspect in the Texas elementary school massacre allegedly shot his grandmother before stealing her vehicle and driving to Robb Elementary, where he opened fire on students and teachers. Texas Governor Greg Abbott said the shooter had no recorded mental problems and that he did not have a criminal record.

Kardashian joins a chorus of celebrities and politicians using the shooting to advocate for stricter gun laws, while those opposed say a more effective solution would be installing armed security guards at schools and installing metal detectors at a single point of entry.
