Oh, the irony.
Hillary Clinton, who escaped serious scrutiny by the FBI — even though she destroyed 30,000 government emails she held in a secret email server and was caught red-handed using unsecured devices to send and receive classified documents — is now calling for the bureau to probe Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Clinton, who was thumped by Donald Trump in the 2016 election, just can’t seem to go away, appearing on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert” on Friday (mainly to hawk her self-obsessed and navel-gazing book “What Happened”).
The late-night host brought up Christine Blasey Ford, the California professor who has come forward to accuse Kavanaugh of trying to force himself on her during a boozy high school party in the early 1980s while she was 15 and Kavanaugh 17.
Colbert, himself a diehard liberal and avowed Trump-hater, asked Clinton about Merrick Garland, who was nominated by former President Barack Obama a year before the presidential election, but was never voted on in the Senate.
“It’s one of the reasons that I think a lot of Americans are just fed up with the whole political process. Because, In a democracy you have to have at least enough trust to be able to work with each other and solve difficult problems,” Clinton said.
“When the Republicans refuse to give a distinguished judge appointed by President Obama even the courtesy of meetings, let alone a hearing, that sent such a terrible message. Now, what they’ve done in this case is to hold back information, they have not provided all the information, which was always made available for other nominees, and they’re trying to rush this through to the detriment of the American public, who deserves to have answers to whatever charges might be presented.”
Clinton then said she thinks the FBI should be called in to investigate the 36-year-old charge.
“I’m hoping that at some point there will be an agreement to have an investigation. It would be very easy for the FBI to go back and finish the background investigation, to investigate these charges. And, you know maybe find out there’s nothing to them, maybe find out there is something to them. But, at least have that investigation completed. I think that’s a fair request for due process to be asked for,” Clinton said, drawing applause.
“Have an investigation, it won’t take that long,” she said. “Let the investigation go forward, present it and then go from there.”
Wonder why she never called for a similar investigation into herself. Oh wait, right: Hillary’s above the law.
