One of the most prominent former Obama Administration officials has a college-aged son who is determined to “Make Stanford Great Again.”
Stanford University student John David Rice-Cameron is a hardcore conservative, a fan of President Donald Trump, the president of his school’s College Republicans, and the activism director for the California College Republicans.
He also happens to be the son of former United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice, a woman who was never exactly a Republican favorite. The former ambassador infamously went on morning news shows to blame a 2012 terrorist attack in Benghazi, Libya, where four Americans were murdered, on an “offensive” YouTube video. The creator of the video, a Coptic Christian named Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, was briefly jailed for the post.
Rice-Cameron told Fox News last week that his conservatism was sparked by the Tea Party movement. He’s also named conservative hosts like Rush Limbaugh and Mark Levin as political influencers.
“This worldview and these principles compel me to promote conservative ideas at Stanford, and beyond,” he stated. “I’m driven by a fundamental sense of urgency over the fact that Americans are slowly losing their liberty, and I believe that liberty is being valued less and less. I want to turn the tide, and college campuses are crucial to doing so.”
To Rice’s credit, her son says she’s been respectful and open-minded about his dissenting political views.
“My mother and I have a great relationship, and my mother believes strongly in the free and respectful exchange of ideas,” said Rice-Cameron, “We disagree on most of the standard Republican/Democrat disagreements. However, we agree that America is the greatest nation the world has ever seen, and thus, we believe that America has an important role to play as a force for liberty and justice on the world stage.”
The 20-year-old caused a stir by hosting Robert Spencer, a controversial expert on radical Islam, at the university and has pushed for a professor with ties to violent left-wing group Antifa to resign, notes Fox News. Rice-Cameron has also pressured Stanford to “reverse its decision on banning American flags on their club t-shirts” and helped host Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk and Candace Owens for a “Make Stanford Great Again!” event on Tuesday.
