GOP Strategist Insults ‘Rube, Ten-Tooth’ Trump Voters Who Support A Border Wall

On Thursday, Rick Wilson, political strategist and author of “Everything Trump Touches Dies: A Republican Strategist Gets Real About the Worst President Ever,” took a brutal swipe at supporters of President Trump while speaking with CNN’s Don Lemon.

After Lemon played a clip in which Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) claims that the president is trying to distract his constituents with talk of a southern border wall, the host asked Wilson: “Is she right, Rick, about the president’s motives here? This wall is just to keep his base’s attention off everything else?”

Wilson replied:

Of course. Don, the wall has always been a con for Donald Trump’s credulous rube ten-tooth base. The wall has always been a scam. It has always been a lie. Nothing about the wall has ever been real, and Donald Trump knows it. He is a guy who has a long history in his career [of] being a conman. He’s conning these people who think he’s gonna build a 2,000-mile, 30-foot high concrete wall with laser moats and alligators in it. It’s just crazy. It always has been – and yet they suspend their disbelief because they believe so strongly in Donald Trump.

Like I said, it’s always been a con. It’s always been a scam. It’s an insult to their intelligence, but obviously it seems to work with his base because they believe it over and over again that nothing will stop the brown horde except the wall.

It’s unlikely that Rick Wilson’s claim regarding the president’s base – that they are a clan of racist fools who simply want a wall to keep “brown” people out – will go over well with Trump voters who have taken a pro-barrier stance after thoughtful consideration of the ramifications of open-border policy.

The battle over the long-promised southern border wall has intensified over the last several weeks, triggering an ongoing partial government shutdown, which began on December 22.

While President Trump has asked for approximately $5 billion to begin construction of a southern border wall, leaders in the Democratic Party have offered the president $1.3 to $1.6 billion in funding for “border security.”

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week” on December 23, acting Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney said that the administration made a counter-offer to Democrats. Although Mulvaney wouldn’t elaborate, according to the Associated Press, an anonymous Democratic aide claimed that the offer amounted to $2.5 billion.

However, Democratic leadership has repeatedly said that there will be no wall.

At a Thursday press conference, Speaker Pelosi stated: “We’re not doing a wall. Does anyone have any doubt that we’re not doing a wall?” She later added: “It has nothing to do with politics; it has to do with the wall [as] an immorality between countries. It’s an old way of thinking.”

Although portions of the existing fencing in various sectors are being repaired or replaced, the construction of a wall such as the one repeatedly described by the Trump administration has yet to begin.
