FBI agents searched President Joe Biden’s home in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware, on Wednesday, expanding their hunt for classified documents.

No documents with classified markings were found after investigators spent about three and a half hours searching the premises, Biden’s personal attorney Bob Bauer said in a statement. He did acknowledge the Justice Department took some materials and handwritten notes that appear to relate to Biden’s time as vice president.

Bauer also stressed the Justice Department search was “planned” and conducted in “coordination and cooperation” with Biden’s attorneys.

The search on Wednesday comes after classified materials were found at Biden’s think tank office in Washington, D.C., and later his Wilmington, Delaware, residence. Biden’s personal attorneys and the White House have insisted throughout they are cooperating with the National Archives and Justice Department.

“I think you’re going to find there’s nothing there. I have no regrets,” Biden told reporters last month.

The discovery of classified materials began as early as November, days before the 2022 midterm elections, when the president’s attorneys say they found sensitive documents at the Penn Biden Center in D.C. However, the discovery did not become known until January when CBS News broke the story of an inquiry by U.S. Attorney John Lausch. Attorney General Merrick Garland later appointed former U.S. Attorney Robert Hur as special counsel to examine whether “any person or entity violated the law in connection with this matter.”

Classified documents have been found at Biden’s Wilmington home on at least three separate occasions and in different parts of the residence, including in the garage. On January 20, the FBI executed a nearly 13-hour search of Biden’s Wilmington home, which Biden’s lawyers and the Justice Department described as consensual. During this search, Bauer said the Justice Department took multiple documents with classification markings, including those dating back to Biden’s time as U.S. senator and vice president. The president spent that same weekend staying at his Rehoboth home.

Despite multiple timelines being provided by the Justice Department and Biden’s teams, the known series of events keeps shifting. On Tuesday, CBS News revealed federal investigators searched Biden’s private office at the Penn Biden Center months ago after Biden’s legal team reported finding classified material there.

Another special counsel is investigating former President Donald Trump’s handling of classified documents. Last week, the public learned classified documents were also discovered at the home of former Vice President Mike Pence.

Amid the fallout from the documents scandal, the National Archives asked former presidents and vice presidents to check for classified and other presidential documents in their possession, according to CNN.

Democrats and Republicans in Congress have demanded more information from the Biden administration, but the Justice Department has so far resisted, citing the ongoing nature of the special counsel inquiries.

Assistant Attorney General Carlos Felipe Uriarte told the Senate Intelligence Committee over the weekend that the Justice Department is “working with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence to support the provision of information that will satisfy the Committee’s responsibilities without harming the ongoing Special Counsel investigations.”
