MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry is possibly the world’s worst excuse for a “news” talk show host while at the same time being the best example of progressive liberalism’s victimhood, race-baiting, feelings-over-facts, cry-babyism that fuels the entire Left’s worldview.
This week her guest was Ebony Magazine senior editor Jamilah Lemieux, who suggested that if Bill Cosby had been a supporter of #BlackLivesMatter, the criticism from her fellow leftists would’ve been much less severe.
“And I can’t help but to wonder—say Mr. Cosby didn’t have that sort of respectability politics, you know, heavy-handed against single-mothers and complicating sounding names and wearing your pants low and listening to hip-hop,” said Lemiuex. “Say that wasn’t who he was. Say that he was a supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. Say that he was a leftist. Say that he was really on our side, quote unquote, politically. Would we be having this conversation? How willing would people be to turn their backs on him?”
The conversation began with the subject of “respectability politics” and comedian Hannibal Buress’ line that helped stoke the eventual Cosby media firestorm. In his stand-up, Buress commented, “‘Pull your pants up black people! I was on TV in the ’80s.’ Yeah, but you rape women, Bill Cosby, so turn the crazy down a couple notches.”
Harris-Perry went on to say that Americans were more interested in preserving their image of Bill Cosby than understanding “actual women’s experiences.”
Which would’ve been a perfect opportunity for both women to apologize for not being interested in these “actual women’s experiences” as well.
