Republican Congressional leaders are preparing to impeach Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein as soon as Monday for his actions in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
Politico reports “three conservative Capitol Hill sources” confirmed that House Freedom Caucus Chairman Mark Meadows (R-NC) has already prepared the impeachment filings against Rosenstein as “Meadows and Freedom Caucus founder Jim Jordan (R-OH) look to build Republican support in the House.”
Republicans have accused Rosenstein of political bias against the president as he’s delayed investigating FBI agents who they say have displayed strong bias against Trump and say that he has refused to turn over documents related to the investigation.
It’s also possible that Republicans could seek to hold Rosenstein in contempt of Congress before filing impeachment proceedings.
The news comes just after Mueller indicted 12 Russian military intelligence officials on charges related to meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Rosenstein announced the indictments during a press conference on Friday, saying, “There is no allegation in this indictment that any American citizen committed a crime. There is no allegation that the conspiracy altered the vote count or changed any election result.”
