‘Communism Will Win’ Army Soldier Gets ‘Other Than Honorable’ Discharge

By  James

After months of silence, we have finally learned the fate of the West Point graduate who infamously declared “Communism Will Win” and decried Defense Sec. James Matthis as “the most vile, evil f**k in the current administration.” Former U.S. Army Infantry Officer Spenser Rapone has been “other than honorably” discharged.

The news of Rapone’s discharge came via the announcement that he would be one of the speakers at the Socialism 2018 conference in Chicago in July. Below is the bio provided by the organization describing Rapone as having “separated from the Army in June 2018 with an Other Than Honorable discharge”:

Spenser Rapone is a former Army Ranger and Infantry Officer recently separated from the military for speaking out against its imperialist violence. He enlisted as an infantryman out of high school in 2010, and deployed to Afghanistan in 2011. After returning from his combat tour, he applied and was accepted into the United States Military Academy at West Point, NY in 2012, graduating and receiving his commission in May 2016. Deciding he could no longer stomach the immorality of US imperialism, he spoke out against the reprehensible actions of the military in September 2017. He ultimately resigned his commission, and was separated from the Army in June 2018 with an Other Than Honorable discharge.

Rapone made headlines back in September 2017 when he posted a controversial image of himself graduating from West Point on Twitter with the message “Communism Will Win”:

Rapone, who belongs to the Democratic Socialists of America, has been active online promoting communism and socialism and decrying the U.S. and its current leadership. Here’s a screenshot of Rapone’s Twitter page (under the handle @punkproletarian) back in September, as reported by the Daily Wire:

As The Daily Caller reported in September, Rapone posted derogatory statements online about Mattis and Vice President Mike Pence:

In a tweet dated June 8, 2017, Rapone tweeted at a podcaster, stating: “Was so pumped for you to go in on Mattis on the latest ep. Definitely the most vile, evil f**k in the current administration.”

Not only that, but Rapone also attacked Vice President Mike Pence in a tweet from August: “Holy s*** what world do these people live in? “Mediocre and conservative?” Pence is a f**king medieval, cold-blooded killer.”

As multiple outlets noted at the time, those statements potentially violate Article 88 of the Uniform Code of Military Justice:

Any commissioned officer who uses contemptuous words against the President, the Vice President, Congress, the Secretary of Defense, the Secretary of a military department, the Secretary of Transportation, or the Governor or legislature of any State, Territory, Commonwealth, or possession in which he is on duty or present shall be punished as a court-martial may direct.

The Army quickly announced that it had opened an investigation into Rapone and renounced his actions in a statement: “The U.S. Military Academy strives to develop leaders who internalize the academy’s motto of Duty, Honor, Country, and who live the Army values. Second Lieutenant Rapone’s actions in no way reflect the values of the U.S. Military Academy or the U.S. Army.”

Republican Sen. Marco Rubio also took action, sending a letter to the Army Secretary “asking that Rapone lose his commission and be forced to repay the cost of his education,” Hot Air notes. After that, little was heard of Rapone, until the recent news of his “Other Than Honorable” discharge.
