It may not have been a particularly wild college football Saturday, but we certainly received some clarity on which teams are for real and which aren’t.
The AP’s top-25 rankings came out on Sunday, and there’s been some movement in the top-5, along with some new faces in the crowd.
The Iowa Hawkeyes were the only team within the top-10 to lose on Saturday, getting thoroughly beaten by then-unranked Purdue 24-7 at home. Iowa managed just 271 yards of total offense and only 76 yards on the ground.
“Basically they outdid us in every category,” Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz said. “The bottom line is we didn’t get it done.”
They’ve dropped out of the top-10 completely — falling to No. 11 — while Purdue comes in at No. 25, their first top-25 ranking since 2007.
Georgia rolled on, beating a very good Kentucky team at home 30-13. Georgia’s defense was once again dominant, only allowing Kentucky to get into double digits with a garbage time touchdown with four seconds left in the fourth quarter.
“I’m proud of our guys today,” Georgia head coach Kirby Smart said. “That was a really physical football team we played. Every single time we play them, it’s tough. They play tough hard-nosed football. They do a tremendous job, all three phases. They don’t make many mistakes. When you have a team like that, you have to beat them methodically. It’s tough.”
Cincinnati moved up a spot to No. 2 after beating UCF 56-21. It’s the first time a non-Power Five team has been ranked this high since 2010.
Oklahoma, Alabama, and Ohio State round out the top-5.
Oklahoma State moves into the top-10, after a 32-24 win over No. 25 Texas. Heisman-contender Bijan Robinson had 135 yards for Texas but was overshadowed by Oklahoma State running back Jaylen Warren, who rushed for 193 yards on 33 carries.
“Good win for us,” OK State head coach Mike Gundy said. “Like I told the guys, they get a chance to enjoy this. They’ll be home in time to enjoy it with their friends, family and whoever else, and then we got to go to work tomorrow. We got another road game and they’re not easy. We got to get back to work. Unfortunately, after midnight, this one’s over.”
Michigan State remained undefeated with a hard-fought 20-15 win over Indiana.
The University of Texas at San Antonio makes their first appearance in the national ranking in the history of the program, coming in at No. 24 in the AP poll.

Oregon is the lone Pac-12 school to make the rankings, dropping a spot to No. 10.
