Update 5:10 pm PST: The death toll from Monday night’s truck attack in Breitscheidplatz square, the German capital’s central shopping district, is now up to 12, according to Berlin police.
Update 3:50 pm PST: German officials remain relatively tight-lipped about the details of the incident, prompting a flurry of speculation among journalists and laymen alike. An attack of this magnitude is usually accompanied by frequent updates by relevant authorities. That isn’t happening here.

Update 3:10 pm PST: The body of a Polish man was found in the truck hijacked by the terrorist. Police believe the Polish man was the truck’s driver and was killed shortly before the attack. German media is reporting that the terrorist was from the predominately Muslim region of Chechnya, although that information hasn’t yet been verified by authorities.
Update 12:50 pm PST: Police in Berlin have arrested the suspect behind the terrorist attack, according to the Asociated Press. He was arrested near the scene of the attack.
Update 12:25 pm PST: Berlin police have confirmed that at least 9 people have been killed as a result of the terrorist attack. That number is up from two as originally reported.
A truck rammed into a heavily crowded Christmas market in Berlin, Germany late Monday. Police recently confirmed that the incident was indeed a terrorist attack. The suspect allegedly fled the scene. A manhunt is currently underway.
