The deceased assailant who rammed two U.S. Capitol Police officers Friday and emerged from his car wielding a knife before police shot him has been identified as a 25-year-old African American man from Indiana who believed Louis Farrakhan is an incarnation of Jesus Christ.

NBC’s Pete Williams reported Friday that Capitol Police identified the suspect as a 25-year-old man from Indiana who may have lived in Virginia (suspect’s name has been removed per Daily Wire policy). “On his Facebook page, he notes that he is a follower of the Nation of Islam,” tweeted MSNBC’s Jesse Rodriguez, citing Williams’ reporting. “Suspect is now dead.”

According to his college football profile, the suspect claimed that the figure in history he most wanted to meet was former Nation of Islam leader Malcolm X.

Journalist Ian Miles Cheong tweeted images from the suspect’s Facebook page — reportedly since deleted — in which he described himself as a “follower of Farrakhan.” Long posts detailed the suspect’s life struggles and religious views, which include his belief that Farrakhan is Jesus. “I am currently now unemployed after I left my job partly due to afflictions, but ultimately, in search of a spiritual journey,” he wrote in part.

“I haven’t had much to lean on in the past few months,” he continued. “I’ve been faced with fear, hunger, loss of wealth, and diminution of fruit. My faith is one of the only things that has been able to carry me through these times and my faith is centered on the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan as Jesus, the Messiah, the final divine reminder in our midst.”

He went on to describe Farrakhan as his “spiritual father,” without whose guidance he would have “been unable to continue.”

In another post, he encouraged his readers to study the Book of Revelation regarding signs of the end times. “[S]tudy who the beast is, study who the anti-Christ is, study who the false prophet is, and study the created images during these times.”

“The Minister is here to save me and the rest of humanity, even it means facing death,” he continued. “Be willing to deny yourself and follow him, pick up your cross.”

He died on Good Friday.

Friday’s incident on Capitol Hill led not only to the suspect’s death, but also the death of U.S. Capitol Police Officer William Evans. Another officer was injured. Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee said in a press conference Friday afternoon, before reports emerged identifying the suspect, that the attack did not appear terrorism-related. Contee emphasized officials would “continue to investigate to see if there’s some type of nexus along those lines.”

“It is a with a very, very heavy heart that I announce one of our officers has succumbed to his injuries,” said Acting U.S. Capitol Chief Yogananda Pittman during a press briefing before Evans was identified. “We are not able to release any information, names, age, date of birth, or anything of that nature at this time, because we still have to notify the next of kin.”

“This has been an extremely difficult time,” said Pittman, citing the events of January 6 as well as the car attack. She also asked that the public keep the U.S. Capitol Police in their prayers.
