Brazil’s President Tweets ‘Golden Showers’ Video

Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro, according to HuffPost, has tweeted out a video of an actual “golden shower” in protest of the hedonism present at the country’s Carnival festival.

“The video Bolsonaro presented to his 3.4 million followers (which is extremely NSFW) shows someone peeing on someone else in front of a crowd of revelers at the annual festival,” reports the outlet. “The far-right president feigned shock and concern over the display, wondering about the origins of the ‘golden shower‘ in an apparent attempt to disparage a nationwide celebration that has turned against him.”

In his tweet, Bolsonaro lamented about what the Carnival festival has turned into. “I don’t feel comfortable showing this, but we have to expose the truth so the people can be aware,” he said. “This is what many street parties during Carnival have turned into.”

Bolsonaro apparently did not know what the term “golden shower” meant and asked his Twitter followers on Wednesday morning, “What is a golden shower?”

The Carnival festival has reportedly taken a heavy anti-Bolsonaro tone in recent weeks due to his socially conservative policies. HuffPost has more:

Carnival’s blocos ― or traditional street parties ― sounded off with music criticizing Bolsonaro’s anti-LGBTQ policies and his efforts to ease gun laws, while revelers wore costumes that mocked the president and his anti-gay, anti-black and anti-indigenous initiatives. (A pro-Bolsonaro bloco in São Paulo, meanwhile, drew nobody.)

The backlash spilled into the official aspects of the celebration: In Rio, a top samba school ― one of the acting and dancing clubs that compete against each other in Carnival’s competitions ― used its parade to honor Marielle Franco, the black, queer Rio city councilwoman who was assassinated a year ago this month. A top samba school in São Paulo turned its parade into a similar demonstration.

Bolsonaro has come out against against teaching schoolchildren about LGBTQ acceptance and gender ideology. On the first day of his presidency, he also “removed the LGBTQ community from the list of those protected by Brazil’s human rights ministry.” Upon his election, he also tweeted that he would be removing “Marxist garbage” from the country’s schools.

“One of our strategies to get Brazil to climb from the lowest spots of the educational rankings is to tackle the Marxist garbage in our schools head on. We shall succeed in forming citizens and not political militants” he tweeted.

Bolsonaro has also promised to ease restrictions on the country’s gun laws.

“By decree we intend to ensure possession of firearm to the citizen without criminal record, as well as make his registration definitive,” he tweeted in January.

The Daily Wire’s Ashe Schow reported at the time that Bolsonaro encouraged schools to cite teachers who expressed outrage in front of their students over the election.

“Just after Bolsonaro won the election, he showed support for a viral post from a high-school history teacher calling for students to report teachers who express outrage over the new president’s victory,” Schow reported. “Bolsonaro suggested students across the country do this. Teachers told the Nation they have to now ‘police’ themselves and are being ‘censored.'”
