According to Travel & Leisure, the beaches in Florida are not among the best in the country.

Social media had some strong reactions to the publication snubbing the Sunshine State by releasing a list of the best United States beaches and only listing one Florida location. Meanwhile, New Jersey, Michigan, New York, and Illinois were all represented.

Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis’ press secretary Christina Pushaw pointed out how  many of Florida’s gorgeous shores were missing from the list and blamed it on mainstream media not loving the governor in charge. She referred to the snub as “DeSantis derangement syndrome,” a play on the term “Trump derangement syndrome.”

“This @TravelLeisure ‘Best Beaches’ list is blatantly Florida-phobic. Everyone who has been to Florida knows how beautiful our many beaches are. There are some nice beaches on this list from other states, but some real head scratchers too…,” Pushaw shared.

“Minnesota? Michigan? New York City? You can’t even go to the beaches there most of the year because it’s too cold!” she wrote in a follow-up tweet.

Next, the press secretary compared this new list of best U.S. beaches to another roundup from 2019. That one came from a different publication, but Pushaw highlighted how 10 out of the 25 best beaches were all located in Florida.

“’Best Beaches List’, before and after the mainstream media became Florida-phobic due to terminal DeSantis Derangement Syndrome,” she wrote while sharing a snapshot of the lists side by side.

The replies were full of people agreeing that the list is bogus.

“As a Georgia resident… Tybee island shouldn’t be anywhere close to a “best beach” list,” one person wrote

“I can assure you no one goes to Duluth to go to a beach. The water is freezing cold year-round,” another agreed.

One person addressed the trend of people moving to Florida recently and joked that Pushaw should not encourage more people to join that bandwagon.

“Shhhhhhh. We don’t need any more migration to FL of people that believe these publications,” that person shared.

DeSantis has been serving as governor of the state since 2019.
