Biden Tells Europeans: Trump Is Embarrassing America

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference over the weekend, former Vice President Joe Biden tried his best to imitate his former boss, Barack Obama, by apologizing for America, implying that the Trump administration is “an embarrassment.”

Trying to curry favor with Europeans who hold America in contempt, Biden said: “The America I see values basic human decency, not snatching children from their parents or turning our back on refugees at our border. Americans know that’s not right. The American people understand plainly that this makes us an embarrassment. The American people know, overwhelmingly, that it is not right. That it is not who we are.”

As The Washington Examiner reported, Biden added: “While I cannot speak today as an elected government official who is able to set policy, I can speak as a citizen. I can offer insight into my country. I know we’ve heard a lot today about leadership, but in my experience, leadership only exists if somebody — and others — are with you. Leadership in the absence of people who are with you is not leadership.”

Despite the fact that Biden was clearly attacking the Trump administration in public, he couldn’t resist this piece of hypocrisy: “You’re never allowed to disagree with your brothers and sisters in public. Today, because of, I think, a lack of leadership coming from the other side of the Atlantic, we find ourselves in a different place, and it’s uncomfortable.”

Implying that President Trump does not respect countries traditionally allied with America, Biden continued, “I have spent the better part of the last two years traveling throughout the United States of America, from Minnesota to Texas; from Boston to Birmingham. I can assure you, that the American people, the ultimate wellspring of power in the United States of America, remain committed to engaging the world with decency and respect. Those same people who I met all across the United States, who may feel disconnected, discounted, ignored, or left behind … They still believe, as I do, that the core values enshrined in our alliances are worth defending.”

Funny, wasn’t it Barack Obama who moved the bust of Great Britain’s Winston Churchill, arguably the most important leader of the 20th century, out of the Oval Office? Wasn’t it Obama who canceled a missile defense system in Poland, triggering the Polish president to slam him for doing so?

And wasn’t it Barack Obama who went on an extended apology tour for America, saying in France 2009, “In America, there’s a failure to appreciate Europe’s leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.” Obama added one month later, in Washington D.C., “Instead of strategically applying our power and our principles, too often we set those principles aside as luxuries that we could no longer afford. And during this season of fear, too many of us — Democrats and Republicans, politicians, journalists, and citizens — fell silent. In other words, we went off course. And this is not my assessment alone.”
