WASHINGTON, DC - JANUARY 19: U.S. President Joe Biden talks to reporters during a news conference in the East Room of the White House on January 19, 2022 in Washington, DC. With his approval rating hovering around 42 percent, Biden is approaching the end of his first year in the Oval Office with inflation soaring, COVID-19 raging and his legislative agenda stalled on Capitol Hill.

President Joe Biden was widely criticized online on Wednesday following his about two-hour press conference, the first press conference that he’s given in months, over his responses to a variety of questions.

Biden suggested during the press conference that a “minor incursion” by Russia into Ukraine might not elicit the same response from the U.S. as a full-scale invasion.

When asked about his struggles in office and whether he overpromised on the campaign trail, Biden responded, “I didn’t over-promise, but I have probably outperformed what anyone thought would happen.”

The following are some of the notable responses to Biden’s press conference:

  • Ben Shapiro, The Daily Wire: “Biden saying that we might not respond disproportionately to a ‘minor incursion’ by Putin in Ukraine is the worst foreign policy blunder since…Biden surrendered Afghanistan to the Taliban and got 13 Americans killed and left hundreds more behind. So yeah, he sucks at this.”
  • Dan McLaughlin, National Review: “Biden is attacking the legitimacy of American elections while signaling Putin to try a ‘minor incursion’ in Ukraine. None of this is normal. None of this is OK.”
  • Lisa Boothe, Fox News: “Did no one in Biden’s life love him enough to try to stop him from running? This is just embarrassing. He’s not fit for office.”
  • House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA): “Biden has spent 1/4 of his presidency in Delaware and 2 hours today deflecting blame for the crises he created. One year on the job with Democrats in full control. That’s more than enough time for Americans to recognize that he has failed at his job.”
  • Jesse Kelly, radio host: “All ideologies aside, this Biden presser should serve as an example to all of the danger of living in a bubble and surrounding yourself with people who live in that same bubble. This is an administration that seems to have no idea what people are going through.”
  • Kayleigh McEnany, former White House press secretary: “If Trump said half of what Biden is saying right now, reporters would be screaming. But it’s Biden, so they don’t even bother to follow up.”
  • Tom Bevan, RealClearPolitics: “Wow. Biden refuses to say midterm elections will be free and fair if his voting rights bill doesn’t pass.”
  • Noah Rotham, Commentary: “Biden clarifies that he didn’t call opponents of the voting rights bill racists. He said that you’re on the side of racists. Big difference.”
  • Kevin Sorbo, actor: “Guys Biden said the grocery stores aren’t empty and out of food, so clearly that’s correct, your eyes deceive you.”
  • Mark Hemingway, RealClearInvestigations: “This is embarrassing. The media is transparently pressuring Biden from the left on political issues, instead of using this rare opportunity to extract useful information.”
  • Caleb Hull, media strategist: “So Biden has now complained that elections are rigged, polls are fake, and that news coverage is wrong. Isn’t this everything that made Trump literally Hitler?”
  • Guy Benson, Fox News: “Biden admits he didn’t reach out to any Republicans ahead of his push to totally re-write the nation’s election laws.”
  • Matthew Continetti, AEI: “Today is a reminder of why Biden does so few press conferences.”
  • Clay Travis, OutKick: “This is an incredibly embarrassing press conference for Joe Biden. He’s reading from a pre-approved list of questioners on a list given to him. Is he incapable of calling on reporters himself? Because that’s the only explanation most people watching, including me, take from this.”
  • Dana Loesch, radio host: “Biden now yelling at reporters over Bull Connor in case you wondered how the presser was going.”
  • Joe Concha, The Hill: “Biden now claiming he hasn’t attacked anyone publicly while defending divisive speech in Georgia.”
  • Rory Cooper, Purple Strategies: “Joe Biden is upset we’re focused on the schools that are closed and not the ones that are open. The ones that are open are in spite of his allies, the ones that are closed are thanks to them. So, yeah.”
  • Laura Ingraham, Fox News: “Reminder: Biden was coached for days for this performance.”
  • Stephen Miller, former Trump adviser: “Today’s press conference from Joe Biden focused on the wrong border. He wants to uphold Ukraine’s territorial boundaries while relentlessly demolishing our own.”
  • Dagen McDowell, Fox Business: “Biden…Bragging about record job creation? The country is still 3.6 million jobs short of pre-pandemic employment. Oh and wages fell -2.4% last year after adjusting for the near 40-year high inflation.”
  • Dave Reaboi, political commentator: “I’m tempted to call the Biden presidency ‘elder abuse,’ but the guy’s just such a vile piece of s**t.”
  • Joel Pollak, Breitbart News: “This press conference marks the effective end of the Biden presidency. Let the 25th Amendment discussions begin.”
