Rather than blame her defaulting on smelly vagina jokes as opposed to actually being funny, comedienne Amy Schumer says that President Trump has been a “nightmare” for her comedy career.
Speaking with Time, Schumer said that she has been doing less standup due to the current state of American politics.
“I’ve been doing less standup, just because it’s not funny,” Schumer said as “tears come to her eyes,” according to Time.
Schumer doing less standup may be the truth, but not because of politics. You might recall last year when her Netflix special, “The Leather Special,” debuted, it received a deluge of one-star negative reviews complete with a horrid 2.9 rating on IMDB. Rather than admit she delivered a dud, Schumer blamed her fail on organized alt-right trolls.
“The alt-right organized trolls attack everything I do,” the comedienne wrote on Instagram. “They organize to get my ratings down. Meeting in sub Reddit rooms. They tried on my book and movies and tv show. And I want to thank them.”
Later in 2017, her Mother’s Day comedy film, “Snatched,” starring alongside Goldie Hawn, tanked in the box-office.
Schumer’s upcoming film, “I Feel Pretty,” has also faced backlash from online trolls, except this time it came from feminists who accused the film of body shaming. Responding to the backlash, Schumer expects trolls to bring down the film’s rating.
“There will be a movement on Reddit to try and get the movie voted down, to actually hurt me,” said Schumer. “But I’m not going to let that slow me down.”
Box-office reports indicate that Schumer’s next film will bomb even harder than her film “Snatched.” To her credit, the comedienne admits the movie has flaws and is certainly not woke enough.
“It’s not a perfect movie,” she says. “It would be great if my role had been played by a woman of color and there were more trans people in it, more people with disabilities. But it’s a step in the right direction, I hope.”
“I Feel Pretty” tells the story of a woman who falls off an exercise bike and then imagines herself having supermodel good looks, a sort of “Shallow Hal” in reverse.
