Mook: Putin Leaked DNC Emails To Help Trump

Hillary Clinton’s campaign manager Robby Mook responded to the Wikileaks dump of internal DNC emails during an interview with left-wing CNN on Sunday. Joining Jake Tapper for State of the Union, Mook said the Russian government orchestrated the hacking of DNC emails, deliberately releasing them ahead of next week’s Democratic National Convention in order to benefit Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

“Experts are telling us that Russian state actors broke into the DNC, stole these emails, and other expert are now saying that the Russians are releasing these emails for the purpose of actually helping Donald Trump. I don’t think it’s coincidental that these emails were released on the eve of our convention,” said Mook.

Mook implied that Trump’s approach towards Russia is shaped by connections between the Republican presidential nominee and the Kremlin. A more “pro-Russian” Republican policy platform, said Mook, was a “disturbing” product of what he implied were surreptitious relations between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Asked for evidence of his claims, Mook said, “We need to let the experts speak on this. It’s been reported in the press that the hackers that got into the DNC are very likely to be working in coordination with Russia.”

The timing of the release of the emails, said Mook, was done deliberately by the Russian government to create “maximum damage” against Clinton and “to help Donald Trump.”

Leaked DNC emails illustrate attempts by its higher-ups to politically damage Sen. Bernie Sanders (D-VT).
