Rick Santorum Endorses Trump For President

On Tuesday, former Pennsylvania senator Rick Santorum officially endorsed the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump, for president.

"I'm 100 percent," stated Santorum in an interview with Fox’s Greta Van Susteren "That's endorse."

Santorum had previously supported Sen. Marco Rubio.

Trump, however, had asked Santorum for his support during a meeting last week. Santorum felt compelled to oblige after reflecting on the next president’s likely duty to choose a Supreme Court nominee.

"The most important issue is preserving the Constitution of this country and a liberal Supreme Court will destroy it," he argued.

According to The Hill, “Santorum conceded that the 2016 race, in his view, is more about personalities than policy.” As a result, Santorum’s endorsement came off as slightly ambivalent.

“I think Americans maybe just want a little unvarnished [candidate]. I can't say that I'm crazy about it,” he concluded. "I think the American public has made up their mind about Hillary Clinton. I think Donald Trump still has an opportunity to cast the right lot and win this election.”

Santorum first entered the national spotlight after making a name for himself as a social conservative crusader. He has since supported Christian causes that promote traditional family values.
