Donald Trump, said the conventional wisdom, was tailor-made for Hillary Clinton.
That’s wrong. It’s beginning to look more and more like Hillary Clinton was tailor-made for Donald Trump.
On Monday, CNN broke the news that the FBI and the Justice Department had initiated an investigation into Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffe. Here’s CNN:
The investigation dates to at least last year and has focused, at least in part, on whether donations to his gubernatorial campaign violated the law, the officials said. McAuliffe wasn't notified by investigators that he is a target of the probe, according to the officials.
Perhaps McAuliffe's attempt to make voting easier for felons was designed to allow him to vote for fellow felon Hillary Clinton.
But here’s the best part:
As part of the probe, the officials said, investigators have scrutinized McAuliffe's time as a board member of the Clinton Global Initiative, a vehicle of the charitable foundation set up by former President Bill Clinton. There's no allegation that the foundation did anything improper; the probe has focused on McAuliffe and the electoral campaign donations, the officials said….Among the McAuliffe donations that drew the interest of the investigators was $120,000 from a Chinese businessman, Wang Wenliang….Wang also has been a donor to the Clinton foundation, pledging $2 million.
Just as with Hillary’s email scandal, all the investigators are focused on the activity surrounding Hillary, but never Hillary herself. Never.
McAuliffe has been the Clintons’ leading bagman for decades. He was co-chairman of the Clinton 2008 campaign. In the 1990s, he claims that he raised “about $275 million for Clinton’s interests over the years,” including the Clinton legal defense fund, the Clinton presidential library, and Hillary’s New York Senate race. As The Washington Post reported back in 1999, McAuliffe “pledged to put up $1.35 million in cash to secure a mortgage for the Clintons” on their house in Chappaqua. That loan allowed the Clintons to avoid their $5 million in debt to get the home loan, allowing Hillary to run from New York State.
McAuliffe’s links to Wenliang shouldn’t be a surprise, either. According to Judicial Watch, McAuliffe was intimately involved with Chinagate – the scandal during which Chinese citizens funneled $1.5 million to Democratic Party affiliates, and then received help from the Clinton administration to funnel missile technology to the Chinese.
All of this broke on the same day as Trump’s connection with Mafia boss “Fat Tony,” who apparently did Trump’s dirty work with the unions as Trump attempted to build Trump Tower in New York. But nobody will remember that. And any attempt by Hillary to bring that up will undoubtedly be met by Trump with the McAuliffe story – as it should.
Against Hillary, Trump is almost invulnerable to scandal. That’s why he’s got to be pleased beyond belief to be running against a woman to whom he once gave money. People theorized months ago that the Clintons must have convinced Trump to run. With the way this election is going, it’s possible that Trump called Hillary and paid her to run.
