If the eminently unqualified and unpalatable Donald Trump becomes President Of The United States next January, there will truly be only one reason: Hillary Clinton. The former First Lady, Senator and Secretary of State isn’t merely an incompetent politician. She’s a danger to the republic. There are many politicians with ridiculous, incoherent and frightening foreign policy views. But she’s perhaps the only politician in America who poses as much of a risk to national security as Trump simply by dint of character.
On Wednesday, the Romanian hacker “Guccifer” (aka Marcel Lehel Lazar) said that he had breached Hillary Clinton’s private email server. “As far as I remember, yes, there were…up to 10, like, IPs from other parts of the world,” said Lazar. He said that Hillary’s server was “completely unsecured…like an open orchid on the internet.” Hillary, a criminal who should be making claims from her prison cell, quickly fought back, with her team stating, “There is absolutely no basis to believe the claims made by this criminal from his prison cell.” They added, “It is unfathomable that he would have gained access to her emails and not leaked them the way he did to his other victims.”
In other words, the Clinton camp won’t even maintain that the emails were secure. They simply say that the fact that the emails aren’t public shows that they were never hacked – an insanely stupid defense that must have lawyers everywhere cringing. It’s the equivalent of the “if I really wanted to kill that woman, do you think I’d be stupid enough to have spread her blood everywhere in my house?” argument.
Hillary is dangerous. Not merely her judgment – her personality. That’s why her newest pitch, that Donald Trump is a “loose cannon,” will not play. She’s a loose cannon, too – but she’s a calculated loose cannon. Trump is a faulty firearm, detonating haphazardly; she’s a properly working firearm aimed in the wrong direction at all times. Trump talks to Vladimir Putin because he’s a nutcase who thinks he can make common cause with a dictator who flatters him. She talks to Vladimir Putin via him hacking her email server because she’s so paranoid that the public might find out what she’s been telling all of her aides. Trump may be testifying in a fraud trial about a company targeting Americans to sucker them into turning over their cash; Hillary may be testifying in federal court about her email server in the middle of the race.
There are those who say that Hillary will be less dangerous than Trump as president. There’s certainly no guarantee of that. Hillary is guided by the vilest form of mechanistic self-interest, Trump by the urges of his emotional bowels. It would take a candidate as dangerous as Donald Trump to make Hillary Clinton look plausible; it would take a candidate as dangerous as Hillary Clinton to make Donald Trump look plausible.
