In an interview with MSNBC on Tuesday, Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro discussed the misdemeanor battery charges brought against Donald Trump's campaign manager Corey Lewandowski and the "deeply dishonest" campaign's egregious mishandling of the ugly situation.
Lewandowski was arrested by the Jupiter Police Department Tuesday morning after being charged with misdemeanor battery against Breitbart News reporter Michelle Fields. Despite repeated strong denials of her accusations, including blasting Fields as "delusional," Lewandowski turned himself in after the Jupiter Police Department filed charges and posted surveillance video evidence that confirmed her story.
Shapiro, who resigned from Breitbart News along with Fields over the outlet's egregious mishandling of the situation, has been calling for Lewandowski's resignation since evidence of the battery first emerged. Speaking with MSNBC Tuesday, Shapiro said the Trump campaign has now been forced to start changing its defiant tone after having been caught "lying about their lies."

In response to the charges, the Trump campaign issued a statement Tuesday morning: "Mr. Lewandowski was issued a Notice to Appear and given a court date," the statement reads. "He was not arrested. Mr. Lewandowski is absolutely innocent of this charge. He will enter a plea of not guilty and looks forward to his day in court. He is completely confident that he will be exonerated."
Trump took to Twitter to respond, writing, "Wow, Corey Lewandowski, my campaign manager and a very decent man, was just charged with assaulting a reporter. Look at tapes-nothing there!"
