Nationally-syndicated radio host Mark Levin invited "media creation" New York Democratic Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to join him on his Fox News Sunday show "Life, Liberty, Levin" for a "respectful" interview to discuss her political beliefs.
As noted by The Daily Wire’s Ryan Saavedra, Ocasio-Cortez said in an interview earlier this week, "I think the part of it that is generational is that millennials and people, in Gen Z, and all these folks that come after us are looking up and we’re like, the world is gonna end in 12 years if we don’t address climate change." She added, "And your biggest issue, your biggest issue is how are going to pay for it? — and like this is the war, this is our World War II."
In a Tuesday interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity, Levin criticized the democratic socialist's comments. "What has Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez created? Any job? Part-time job? How about Bernie Sanders? What have they created?" Levin asked (partial transcript via RCP).
"So where is all this money going to go? 70% tax bracket? Who is going to decide who gets what? The Department of Agriculture? The Department of Energy? The EPA? These people waste a $125 billion a year according to the GAO (Government Accountability Office)," he continued. "Americans do not like big authoritarian, centralized government and two million bureaucrats pushing them around. So why do we confer health care upon them?”
Levin then questioned how much Ocasio-Cortez really understands economic principles. "What does she know exactly? Nothing. Go to the supermarket, that's capitalism. Twenty different types of bread, thirty different types of wine from all over the world, five different types of fish... I can't even tell what fish. Go to the supermarket. Look at all the different things you get. We live better than kings and queens lived a 150 to 200 years ago. Look at all the things around you. That's created by capitalism -- capitalism and freedom, individualism, the American people. They're about power, power, power, edicts, fiats, that's what she's all about," he said.
"And Ms. Ocasio-Cortez, please come on my Fox show on Sunday. I want to talk to you. I want to talk to you about capitalism versus Marxism and socialism. I want to talk to you about some of your ideas. I know you go to these slobbering interviews and so forth. I promise to be respectful. Have enough guts and enough intelligence,"said Levin.
He also criticized the media’s role in propping up Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. "My theory, Sean Hannity, is this: she is a media creation," he said. "That's all she is. And let some conservatives who will treat her with respect interview her. I would request an interview."
Hannity joked, "You better get it in soon because she said the world would end in twelve years."
Daily Wire editor-in-chief Ben Shapiro has also offered to debate the democratic socialist on the merits of her ideology. She declined on social media, equating the offer to "catcalling."
"Just like catcalling, I don’t owe a response to unsolicited requests from men with bad intentions," she wrote on Twitter. "And also like catcalling, for some reason they feel entitled to one."
