Middle-America's favorite athlete is now spoken for. After a fairly traditional courtship that began in 2017, former Denver Bronco's quarterback and outspoken man of faith Tim Tebow popped the question to former Miss Universe Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters this week. The pair is now engaged.
In a series of photos posted to her Instagram on Thursday, the former South African beauty queen proudly announced she "can't wait" to spend the rest of her life with Tim Tebow.
"Any dreams I've ever had, you've exceeded them all! I love you and I can't wait to spend forever with you!" she said.
Tebow posted, "Thank you for saying YES and making me the happiest man in the world. You’re the love of my life, and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with you."
According to Fox News, the sports star "popped the question with a 7.25-carat sparkler on Wednesday at his family's farm outside of Jacksonville, Florida."
Speaking with People, the 23-year-old Nel-Peters said she looks forward to a life with Tim Tebow. "I’m so excited for the wedding, and I can’t wait to spend forever with Tim," she said.
Nel-Peters says that Tebow secretly flew her family and closest friends in from South Africa so they could be there to watch the moment. He got down on one knee underneath the wooden arbor where he was flanked by flowers. Later, South African singer Matthew Mole appeared to sing one of their favorite tunes — "The Wedding Song."
"I actually wasn’t really nervous," said Tebow of the moment. "I was excited. I wanted everything to be perfect and to go smoothly. But I wasn’t nervous to actually ask her."
Last December, Nel-Peters told Fox News that Tebow supports her in everything she does and is the "sweetest person ever."
"It’s wonderful to be able to share my life experiences with somebody who's so understanding and supportive," Nel-Peters said at the time. "He supports me in everything that I do. He’s just the sweetest person ever and it’s such an honor for me to be able to get to share my experiences with him."
Over the years, Tim Tebow has been open about his ongoing search for love and the difficulty of finding "The One."
"I’m looking, but I just can’t seem to find anyone," he told PEOPLE in spring 2017. "I don’t want to be single; I’m ready to settle down and start a family. I want to have kids. I have so many things I want. No one will be happier than me when I finally find the right person."
"I’m just looking for someone who has a good heart," he added at the time. "They have to be kind, and they have to care about people who can’t do anything for them in return."
"They have to really love God," he continued. "My faith is important to me — it’s the most important thing — and I need to be with someone who also shares that faith."
Tebow says that Nel-Peters fits the model for what he had been searching for all this time. "She’s just perfect for me," he told People following his engagement. "I’m really blessed to have her by my side for the rest of my life."
Tim Tebow has never shied away from sharing his Christian faith and has continued to enjoy a devoted fanbase even after his football career inexplicably faded. In 2017, he signed a minor league contract with the New York Mets, which then led him to being promoted to their Double-A team, the Binghamton Rumble Ponies of the Eastern League. Earlier this year, it was reported that he will be hosting the CBS physical competition series Million Dollar Mile from executive producers Allison Grodner and Rich Meehan with Fly on the Wall Entertainment and LeBron James.
