Another poll released on Tuesday show Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) starting to pull even with real estate mogul Donald Trump nationally, while Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) falls behind Ohio Gov. John Kasich (R).
Here are the results of the NBC/Wall Street Journal poll:
- Trump: 30 percent
- Cruz: 27 percent
- Kasich: 22 percent
- Rubio: 20 percent
Not only is Cruz closing in on Trump, he completely wallops Trump in a one-on-one matchup, 57 percent to 40 percent. Kasich also beats Trump in a head-to-head matchup by the same margin, while Rubio beats Trump 56 percent to 43 percent.
While the poll is fantastic news for Cruz, there are reasons to be skeptical of the poll:
Remember, this is the same NBC poll that had Cruz leading nationally during his worst period. they actually have him DOWN 1. messed up poll— Daniel Horowitz (@RMConservative) March 8, 2016
However, this poll comes in tandem with an ABC/Washington Post poll that showed Cruz down only nine percentage points to Trump and another poll showing Cruz down only six percentage points. When taken together, the polls show that Cruz is solidifying himself as the anti-Trump alternative and is positioned to defeat Trump in a head-to-head matchup.
